"Are you busy in the summer of 2008? Because someone, somewhere, is getting in line right now to buy a ticket to the motion picture adaptation of HaloŽ. This exciting project, which will be produced by geek gods and Academy AwardŽ winners Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh under their WingNut Films banner for Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox, has finally announced a director.

The Halo motion picture will be helmed by Neill Blomkamp, making his feature film debut. Blomkamp is widely regarded as one of the most innovative and original artists currently working in short films and commercial advertising. Halo will be distributed domestically by Universal and internationally by Fox. Visual effects, miniatures, and creature design and creation will all be handled by Jackson's award-winning Weta Digital Ltd. and Weta Workshop, Ltd., most recently known for their Oscar-worthy work on The Lord of the Rings films.

A native of South Africa, Blomkamp directed the acclaimed 2005 short film, Alive in Joburg, that depicted a future in which extraterrestrials have become refugees. Last year, Blomkamp also received three Clio Awards and a Visual Effects Society Award for his television commercial Citroen-Alive with Technology. In 2004, Blomkamp was recognized as "One of the Top Five Directors to Watch" at the First Boards Awards and was a featured artist at the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at Cannes. He has also been nominated for an Emmy award for his work on an episode of James Cameron's Dark Angel.

Mary Parent, Scott Stuber and Peter Schlessel will produce Halo. The film is currently targeted for a Summer 2008 worldwide release. Halo will be shot in Wellington, New Zealand, and will make use of the full range of Jackson's state-of-the-art production and post-production facilities there, including Weta, Stone Street Studios, and Park Road Post.

"As a gaming fan, I'm excited to bring Halo's premise, action and settings to the screen with all the specificity and reality today's technology can provide," said Jackson. "Fran and I are intrigued by the unique challenges this project offers, and we're delighted to be working again with our friends at Universal, and with our new ones at Fox and Microsoft. With Neill on board, I'm even more excited by the potential of this project.""

Now they just need to announce who is playing Master Chief...

My fingers are crossed for Mickey Rourke (I know I butchered his name, sue me).

Well it is good that they finally have a director, even though he has yet to direct a mojor motion picture. He appears to have talent. :)

The Summer 2008 release for the film confirms (well for me at least) that Halo 3 will be released in November 2007 so they won't have to worry about in conciding with the movie. Three years in between Halo games. I am sure it will be worth the wait.

I personally don't want to see Chief's face in the movie, but I know it will be revealed. As long as we don't see it in Halo 3. As for an actor to play him I really can't think of anyone, but Rourke would be a good choice.

Edit:Yankee I just checked IMDB.com, Kane Hodder is a stunt man. Does he have the voice to play Master Chief?

Yes indeed.

He hasn't done much acting stuff (he's primarily a stunt man, though he IS Jason Vorhees), but his body type and voice would be PERFECT for Master Chief.

Ah okay, as long as he has the voice.

Another guy that has done some acting and can do some stunts is Ray Park (Darth Maul, Toad, Headless Horsemen fight double). Although he is too small I think to play Chief. Plus I don't know if his voice would work.

There is going to be rioting in the street if Steve Downes (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1091994/)does not do the voice. It will be like Darth Vader, one guy in the suit, and another guy doing the voice.

I gots to say that the director announcement has left me a bit cold. I was hoping for someone with a bit more experience to be at the helm.

All we need is for this guy to flop right on his face whiel trying to do his very FIRST major motion picture.

<----Prays the movie is still good and that somehow the Uwe Boll curse is avoided. :_(

See that is what I want to happen.

Newport I doubt it will be bad as anything Uwe Boll has done.
