Just some awesome games I have that are free (doujin(aka homebrew) games that are amazing!)

If you guys know of any good stuff post it as well!

To start off, my favorite doujin developer of all time! ABA Games!

Almost everything on there is golden. A lot of great little 2D shooters. Noiz2a and Tukimi Fighters are especially good!

Next up, Hikoza'n CHI-X games:

Warning Forever is an awesome boss rush type 2D shooter game. Very fun.

Finally, Twin Seeds is a really fun 2D shooter as well. You can get it here:

Well, I don't keep up with this stuff too much, but here's some that were pointed out recently... I know Frog was the one who brought this one to my attention...

I made a thread like this a while ago and everybody ignored it.

Here's my post from the other thread:

There's so much good homebrew gaming out there. Let's start a thread to share some of the more awesome free games as we come across them.

Zugya DX
http://chinchilla.xsrv.jp/game/zugya/02.jpg (http://chinchilla.xsrv.jp/game/zugya/index.htm)
This is a remake of one of my favorite games on the X68000. It really captures the feeling of the original perfectly, and it's a great version of a totally obscure classic.

rhacp
http://www.keishi.blogdns.com/crostar/images/game_ss_rhacp1.png (http://www.keishi.blogdns.com/crostar/game/)
Ridiculously addictive twist on the old "snake game" formula.

Echoes
http://www.binaryzoo.com/games/echoes/images/echoes_1.jpg (http://www.binaryzoo.com/games/echoes/index.htm)
This is a nifty blend of Geometry Wars and Asteroids. The default mouse controls are kinda meh, but if you have a dual-analog controller, this is a really polished, well made manic arena shooter, and the action gets very intense.

Nearly Departed
http://www.johngreenart.com/nearlydeparted/gallery/images/nd_screen4_jpg.jpg (http://www.johngreenart.com/nearlydeparted/)
This is just one of the best point and click adventures I've played in a very long time. The full game won't be out until later in the year, but there's a really great demo.

Blocksum (http://infotech.rim.zenno.info/products/blocksum/en/download/)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCExjdmoYr8
Pretty awesome puzzle game. Very polished and professional. I'd love to have this thing on my DS.

Let me also throw out La Mulana:

http://agtp.romhack.net/images/projects/lamulana/4.png
This game is a very loving homage to the original MSX, designed to look, sound, and feel like a classic MSX game. It's somewhat inspired by Maze of Gallious/Knightmare II, and it's a non-linear adventure-platformer like Wonder Boy. Good stuff.

Played a few so far, will cehck out the rest later, but Echoes was one I played and I love that! I want that on XBLA, the two joystick thing would work great with it. :D

Oh yeah, another awesome one, Typhoon 2001. It's by far the best Tempest 2000 clone out there, and, uncoincidentally, the closest to the original:

the best freeware pc game in existance is tyrian. That's kind of cheating. It didn't start as freeware, it became freeware many years after the fact. If you want to go down that road we could talk about Beneath a Steel Sky and Boppin, and lots of other cool stuff, as well.

I'm going to check some of these out when I get home. I also need to buy a controler for pc. I know I'm so lazy :.

I just stumbled upon this game and it's fucking amazing. To me. I couldn't stop until I had gone through it all....

It's not necessarily challenging... at all... but I think it's about the experience. Think Rez in this regard. For some reason I really get off on this style of writing... somewhat ambiguous, albeit incredibly potent.

Anyways, check it out. The download is like 87MB.

So I've really had my "Tempest bug" bite me lately after getting myself hooked on Space Giraffe, and so I decided to go back to Tempest on 360 and see if I can get it to grow on me. A word of warning for anyone even remotely looking at it.

DO NOT BUY TEMPEST ON XBOX 360 LIVE ARCADE!!! IT BLOWS!!!

Well, that's not ENTIRELY fair, as the "classic" mode is fairly faithful and fun as a bare bones Tempest arcade game, but after having being spoiled on Tempest 2000 and beyond, the Evolved mode in that game, which is also the mode that all the achievements are tied to, ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!!! It's REALLY BAD!!! This coming from a HUGE Tempest fan too, I just can't stand it! SO many problems with it, but that's not the point of this thread, so I'll save it for later... or just avoid it altogether! :p

So what brings me back to this thread? Well, page 1 actually! ;) In going to various other boards trying to figure out if ANYONE liked the Tempest remake on 360 Live Arcade, I came across a post with the game Frog had mentioned earlier in this thread (and if you were wondering, only one or two actually liked the remake, while everyone else LOATHES it... MORE BASHING OF TEMPEST FOR 360 LIVE ARCADE!!! :D )! So, I never did get around to the Typhoon 2001 game, but since the bug bit, I figured, why not? Free right?

:o

GO DOWNLOAD THIS GAME!!!

It's a VERY faithful, but still different take on Tempest 2000 itself! My main gripe is the control layout, but that's probably because I SUCK using a keyboard for controls. Even then, I still LOVE the game! I've only played the first few levels so far, but the graphics are better, the sound effects are a bit different, but fine, and the soundtrack seems to be the Tempest 2000 soundtrack... well, for the first few levels at least! It's got the power-ups, the crazy visuals, and it's DEFINITELY one everyone should check out! ESPECIALLY those who like Tempest, Tempest 2000... or anyone who DIDN'T get to experience the greatness of one of my favorite games EVER (Tempest for 360 Live Arcade... :p No, really... TEMPEST 2000)!

And just to make it easier on you, here's the direct link again:

http://typhoon.kuto.de/

And since we're plugging free games here, I might as well plug the Space Giraffe demo. No, it's not fully a free game, but I don't really want to start a new thread or anything. Especially since most of us would probably rather play it on the 360 anyway. Although, you CAN download the soundtrack for free on this site too.

http://www.llamasoft.co.uk/games/space-giraffe

Just a word of warning, as mentioned in other threads, Space Giraffe drastically changes things up compared to the old Tempest games, and I really had to "retrain my brain" to get it down. But, once I did, I was freakin' in LOVE with this game! DEFINITELY worth the $5 price on Live Arcade IMO! Space Giraffe that is... NOT Tempest! ;)
