I own 30 discs thus far, of my collection here are my picks of the year.
Disc of the year: Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
Hands down, stunning PQ, IMO best sound on the format, loudest bass i've ever heard in my life. And the U-Control is perfectly implemented, really feels like you're experiencing the future of movies, and has the most bells and whistles of any HD disc to date. Regardless if you actually like this movie, This is what HD is all about.
Best HD Picture Quality: Mission Impossible III
This is a hard one, so many great discs, I think you could give this honor to discs like batman begins, tokyo drift, hulk, king kong, aeon flux, chronicles of riddick, and you wouldn't be wrong. But hands down MI:3 impressed me the most of any disc I own. This disc could easily be disc of the year, but I liked tokyo drift just a little bit more because of things like U-Control.
Best HD Sound: Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
This is hands down for me, no other disc I own impressed me this much. This is the only disc I ever had to turn DOWN, because it was so loud it was scary, and I never knew my subwoofer was this good before watching this movie. Throw in the fact it's only DD+ and not trueHD, really shows there isn't much difference between the two, completly shatters discs like Constantine which actually use trueHD.
Best vintage disc: The Thing
Fantastic PQ, all the extras ported over, solid sound, all around great disc.
Best Extras: Mission Impossible III
1080p HD extras, extra disc to boot, nuff' said really.
Biggest HD Dissapointment: Army of Darkness
There really isn't anything wrong with the PQ, this is hands down the best the film has ever looked. But the disc has ZERO extras, ZERO. And it's also only the theatrical cut, no directors cut. It really was a waste to even release, as the SDDVD extras packed directors cut is still better to own. Bare bones quicky releases have no place in the HDDVD world IMO, especially from Universal, the pioneer of the format... Add to the fact it's also a combo disc with a retail of 40 bucks, just dissapointing. In Universal's defense they only own the rights to the theatrical cut, and the standard DVD release WAY back in the day also had ZERO extras. But still, rather pointless to release.

From the "We'll get it right one day" files:
Excalibur. Yes, one of the BEST looking movies ever made gets a crappy HD-DVD transfer. Check this out though, the DVD version was HARD MATTED which means it wasn't released in its OAR. So the DVD version is cropped. The HD-DVD is in its OAR, BUT it looks worse than the DVD version! So look for Warner Bros. to get it right when the next generation of video comes out. Hopefully anyway...
In the meantime, the VHS version is STILL winner and champion! :SM7
OAR = original aspect ratio

Hahah, gladto hear somebody say that about Fast and the Furious. That's one of those movies that when I see a commercial I get mentally and physically angry and have to start punching shit. I really can't stand those fuckin movies. The worst part is seein a bunch of assholes peeling out of the movie parking lots once they get out from seein them.
Some stupid bezuba head I used to work with told me about how he peeled out of the lot after he saw the first one, acting like some kind of jackass. Not sure if he was expecting me to tell him how cool he was, but instead I stabbed him in the neck and bled him like a pig.......that's not true, but I did wanna hurt him

Drifting is awesome, but the shit they pulled in tokyo drift is absurd. I've been to a Pro drifting competition and it's pretty bad-ass what some of these guys can do though. Me and my cousins have been thinking of getting into it, but it'd require a lot of money none of us are willing to spend. My cousin has been building himself a Silvia just for that, but he keeps crashing it. :(
