You could always just lock the boards. Make it so that only a group has access to the boards, and add us to the group. That's what we did at my forum, and it works fine. We even made a guest board, and all the bots just spam there cause it's the only place they have access too.

As for new users, I'm pretty sure we'll know if they're comming, so we can add them to the group.

Hmm. I suppose all of the people we wanted to have at our board were already there when we locked it up with the group. We were self-sustaining, cause we didn't really need any other users.

Probably just a script that looks for phpbb's and auto form-fills to sign up and post spam. Since most of them are the same app, it's probably easy. Still, a real waste of time

I'm not quite sure. On my forum's guest board, there's bonafied advertising by bots all the time. Like links to porn sites, advertisements for viagra/coupons/etc., and even like political petitions and religious evangelists. We didn't have anything of the sort for the first year, and then recently, we've had a ton very randomly (i.e. we had less than 50 users a year ago, now we have over 700, and only about 3 or 4 of them are actual posters). I'm pretty sure that it's programmed and automated somehow, cause they are all very similar (edit: like what bruhaha said).

IMO, the two we've seen here in the last few days weren't actual bots. They were just pranksters.
