I'm going to roll with... hmmm... this is a hard one. Eliminate Down is really cool though, so I'll roll with that for now.

It's a tough call, but at the same time an easy one... My answer is definitely LandStalker! :56.9hart43:

My favorite games in general are shooters, action/platformers and action-RPG's... LandStalker is one of the best games I have ever played in the genre! It's got such great puzzles, awesome music, and with the perspective, it's got some really interesting elements that aren't seen in the typical action-RPG!

Of course the Genesis had a great library with tons of great games to choose from, but considering I only beat most RPG's/action-RPG's once through (if that), and I've beaten LandStalker MANY times, this is truely a testament to the games greatness! :56.9hart43:

Such a great system, I can't believe I actually sold it off....so many good games.

If I was forced to choose, Shinobi 3 would get the pick. I can't think of many Genesis games that do everything so right. It's tough to find any fault with the game in any area.

Sonic 2. I also really like Eliminate Down though.

Shinobi 3 and Sonic 2 are also some of the top contenders on my list of top Genesis games as well! :56.9hart43: I've never played Eliminate Down though. :( Sounds like one I need to check out! :D

I can't get to that site from here. :( *sigh* Sadly that holds true for pretty much EVERY site out there too! Makes it REALLY difficult to do much, or get any info out of links without trying to remember to check when I get home. Gotta make it fun though... :|

Here ya go!

"Eliminate Down
(What's up with this title? Are we attacking pillows or something?)

Ok, now I know that Malc started the review on this one, but with only three screen grabs and a short little review, I just couldn't sleep at night knowing that this gem of a shooter was only half completed. What an underrated game this one is... huge bosses, tight play control, high challenge level especially on the most difficult mode... after a lull of reviews, I had to put the finishing touches on my 8th favorite shmup.

E-Down reminds me of, and maybe a sequel to, Hellfire (I think this is the one), where you start the game with three or four different weapons: a frontal attack, a back attack, and a diagonal attack. Rather than grab a powerup to switch between them, you hit a button to switch and powerups increase the strength of all three collectively. E-Down has the same sort of weapon system. Forward plasma, diagonal missiles, and back arrows, along with a standard front laser which is the strongest weapon when fully powered to a thin white beam (like dental floss).

E-Down has many mini-bosses and different level situations, such as the missile field Malc mentioned, two giant twin trash compactor things to contend with, a choosable path in one level, and a dimension spanning battle to end things off. While there is no earth shatteringly new about ED, the graphics, game play, and level design just seem to click right into place. Down's music is also a little above average, and the tunes seem to fit the level. This game is similar to R-Type in that you have to know the levels well enough to choose the proper weapon, else it's a quick defeat for the hero. ED also features a little mini-game in the options menu, where a grid of ships is displayed on the screen, and your duty is to move a square onto every ship that moves and blast it, with the game starting out very slow and ending at blazing speed. A nice little addition to a great shoot'em up... the only downside is the NAME! Yes it's different, but why?!?!?"

You'll want to check the actual site later though as there are tons of screen shots and neat captions to go with them. :)

Sounds like a game I should probably just hunt down and purchase! I love shooters, and the Genesis had some great ones on there! I'm going to need a bigger game room! :p

Thanks for posting that info for me! ;)

I can't choose! I don't have a single Genesis game that I didn't play to death. I love them all.

Go ahead and say it. Emulators. There's no TOS here, right?

Nope.

You'll just piss me off if you start talking about pirating Saturn games, and probably piss off everyone else if ya start talking about pirating DC games.

But there is no TOS, and speaking of emulators and posting links is, in theory, OK.

Closest I came to that was trying to make backups of my Saturn games, which of course didn't work. My copy os Astal started getting pretty skippy on the music and I was afraid the disc was goin down.

Other than that, though, I'd rather own copies of my games than anything else. I do use emulators in place of hooking up consoles I have no room for, though. Just about every time I play SMS games, I use MEKA instead of rearranging what little game space I have. Plus, the audio/video cable for my SMS is on it's last leg.

Back-ups of games are cool. I fully understand that. I should probably make back-ups of my more rare titles that I play a lot.

But just downloading them and giving "Well I wasn't into the Saturn back then..." as an excuse? No no no no no. :spock:

Tough call on favorite Genesis game.....

Sonic 2
Streets of Rage 2
Zombies Ate my neighbors
NHL '94 (I loved the NHL series on the Genesis and owned from NHLPA 93 to NHL 96)

As for emulators, I have never played a Saturn one. I do confess that my modded Xbox has emulators for Genesis, NES, SNES, Arcade (MAME) and the ability to emulate N64, TG-16, and others. Once I get it "redone" I will probably load it up with emulators. I know it is evil, but I am NOT going to buy any of those games....unless I get a Wii that is.

Well, like I said, I don't care about emulators myself. I just hate the piracy thing with Saturn/DC games. Emulators are fine. I had MAME on my modded Xbox and had a disc full of NES games for the DC.

The only non-official DC games I have are Full-Death ;) and Propeller Arena. :D

And those were never released, so they don't count. :p

I have a Genesis and I have bought a few games recently but I also have an emulator on my modded XBOX. There are games I might like to check out but I know I would never buy and it is not like I could go buy any Genesis games from the devs now anyway. I don't believe in pirating new games, but I have no pirating old games.
