I never owned a 32X and I feel I might be missing out. I am curious what game/games you all think was the best for it.
Awesomeness.
My fav. game was... hmmm... I guess Zaxxon.

Zaxxon is the first video game that I remember playing. I had it on the Colecovision and it kicked ass.
The 32X one is really cool. I'm really looking forward to trying out the Master System version.

Best games on 32X for me...
1: DOOM (a shorter version of the ACTUAL DOOM, not Ultimate DOOM with a shortened name)
2: Mortal Kombat II (still my favorite version of MK2 ever)
3: Virtua Fighter (same as Saturn version but not as "pretty")
4: Motocross (if you have a friend, one of the most addicting games I've played)

Alright youngins, y'all just sit right down cause grampa Hawk has a little story to tell you!
*collective groaning can be heard*
Now y'all sit down now! This is a very important part of the story of Hawk's life now! Kids these days got no respect!
Now where was I? Ahhh yes... The 32X! The 32X had just recently been announced as an add-on to make the Genesis/Sega CD even MORE powerful and could let it compete with the next-gen competition that was looming on the horizon! All this for a much cheaper price... and I already had a Genesis and Sega CD!!! This actually sounded quite exciting! I was already in love with the Genesis/Sega CD combo, and couldn't wait to see what the future held for the 32X!
Well, the first wave of games was announced for the 32X, and as I read through this latest issue of EGM, I see it... My heart starts pumping, I go temporarilly blind and I had to shake it off and read it again to make sure I wasn't dreaming what I just saw! It was there alright! AN ARCADE PERFECT VERSION OF SPACE HARRIER WAS COMING TO 32X!!! Well, if you don't already know about me and Space Harrier, then you need to go read the Favorite Master System thread... I'll wait... OK good, let's continue with the story!
I jumped up, ran into the other room and SHOVED that magazine in my brothers face! I sang a little song, danced a little dance, and had the biggest smile I think ANYONE has ever had over the announcement of a game EVER! Needless to say, I was pretty dang excited! Well, this sealed the fate of the 32X for me! I was going to HAVE to get one if ONLY for Space Harrier alone! Of course, Space Harrier wasn't the ONLY arcade port coming to the system! After Burner and OutRun were ALSO being ported! *gasp* That's the FREAKIN' HOLY TRINITY OF ARCADE GAMES coming to the 32X! Man, this machine was going to ROCK!!!
Well, months go by, and every day I'm marking a day off on my calendar and saving my money for the day that I will FINALLY get to play the goodness of the arcade game in the comfort of my own living room! The world was a wonderful place, and I was the happiest gamer alive... And then it happened!
My brother got his newest copy of EGM, and since it was his, he got to read it first. I was playing something in the game room of my parents house, while he was on the couch reading. All of a sudden I hear an "Oh no!" coming from my brother! I asked him what was wrong, and he told me to NOT read that issue of EGM no matter what! OK, so when does THAT work? I had to know why! I got up, went and grabbed the magazine, and flipped the pages to the latest Q-Mann section for the latest news... And started reading through it. So far nothing THAT bad, but I was totally not prepared for what I was about to read!
I got to the section where Sega had decided to cancel a few of their 32X projects such as After Burner, OutRun, and... SPACE HARRIER!!! :crying: My heart sunk, and tears came to my eyes! This wasn't just bad news... It might as well been the end of the world! I was absolutely heartbroken! It was like I was promised to finally be with the love of my life, only to have her die in an accident on the way over! My brother told me how sorry he was because he knew how much that game meant to me... but life goes on. This was enough to just about get me to quit gaming though! I went through a SERIOUS depression over this!
Well, I eventually got over it, and Christmas was aproaching back in 1994. The year before, my Mom had taken me to the doctor and we had stopped at this nice little cafe that just really put you in the Christmas spirit, so we decided to go again this year. We went, had a nice lunch, and then decided to relive the previous year by stopping at the Best Buy/Toys R' Us building across the street because the year before I found a really sweet deal on NES games for my brothers for Christmas presents! We were walking through the store, and I started by walking through the game isle to see what I could find. Nothing really special, so we browsed around the store for a bit, and then decided to leave. Well, when we were leaving, we walked back down the game isle, and I don't know why I did, but I had turned around for like half a second and just BARELY caught a glimpse of the end of the isle with a few games on display... but then as I focused ahead of me, it registered with me what I had THOUGHT I had just seen! I quickly spun around, looked right at it, and then JUMPED to grab the tag hanging on the wall (like Toys R' Us used to do)! There it was, in my hands...
SPACE HARRIER FOR 32X!!! :SM11
I can't even begin to describe this feeling! I started hyperventillating, I fell to the floor with tears of joy while clutching the tag holding it as close to me as possible! Other people in the store were quite concerned when they saw me twitching, crying and barely breathing and were running over to make sure I was OK! Luckily, my Mom knew the story, and told everyone that I was OK. OK? I just found out that the love of my life wasn't really dead, but actually IN MY HANDS!!! I honestly believe that at that moment in time, I really was the HAPPIEST MAN ALIVE!!!
Well, my Mom said that she REALLY wanted to buy that for me for Christmas because she wanted to be the one to give me the gift that meant more than any other gift EVER! It was hard knowing I wasn't going to get to play until Christmas, but just knowing that I WAS going to get to play it, I was OK with her gesture! We went up to the front of the store, picked up my game, and then went home with the biggest smile EVER on my face!
So Christmas comes around, and we got a 32X and Space Harrier! Then we find out that the RF cable with the old Genesis doesn't work with the 32X, so I had to wait until the next day to go buy a new one... but after that, I don't think I let go of the controller for quite some time!
I took the box for Space Harrier, and put it up on the highest shelf in my room looking over everything so I would always be able to see it from anywhere in the room! It stayed there until I moved out of my parents house for college!
I would go into details about the game itself, but what can I say that wasn't already said? I love Space Harrier! The fast and furious gameplay, the music, the bright and colorful graphics, the awesome enemy design, the huge explosions, the mesmerizing checkerboard, the tripped out atmosphere and the easy pick-up-and-playability make this game my favorite game of all time! The only thing that could top me playing an arcade perfect port of the game at home was having my own actual moving arcade cabinet of Space Harrier... but that's a story for another time! ;)
Very awesome story Hawk!
I was a bit confused at first, my 32X knowledge is, for the most part, a bit rusty so for the first half of your story I'm like, "But didn't Space Harrier come out on the 32X? I coulda sworn it did..." :SM14
But yes, like I said, stories about finding that "one game" are always good times. :)

Funky as he wanna be.

To each his own opinion but I felt that MKII was a big letdown and i'm glad that I didn't spend that 64 dollars that K-Mart was askin for back in 99 and Motocoss meh. But I think my fave 32X was I guess Shadow Squadron. It did have ship that looked just like the YF-19 form Macross Plus. And AB was great and i'm sure SH was great too.

Which version of MK2 do you like more than the 32X version? I'm about as big a Mortal Kombat fanatic as they come so I've played the following versions like crazy:
Arcade version
Genesis version
SNES version
32X version
Game Gear version
Game Boy version
PC version
Xbox version (midway arcade treasures 2)
Xbox version 2 (shaolin monks unlockable)
PSP version (arcade treasures)
Though the Arcade version is the best of those, the 32X is easily my favorite of the home versions. While there are Arcade ports emulated on the Xbox, they aren't as good simply because they aren't as fun (they picked the shitty version of the Arcade to port). The AI will ALWAYS block or duck your projectiles (unless you combo them in or get them in the middle of an attack) and the AI's difficulty raises too fast.
32X version is solid all the way through, and the computer doesn't pull cheap BS to win. If there's one thing I hate, it's HAVING to use Kung Lao to beat the game on one credit when I'm good at all characters.

As much of a Sega fan as I am/was, I always liked the SNES version best.

Well i'd take the 32X version of the Genesis anyday of the week. I jsut felt that the SNES version was better than the 32X version. The control on the SNES version was much better than even the 6 button on the Genesis. The graphics on the 32X were'nt really better than the SNES. The only thing that the 32X had over the SNES version was the introduction screen and the actual arcade bars and that is it.
The 32X's sound was awful and the voices while they were better than the Genesis still weren't as complete as the SNES. I mean what happened to Liu Kangs voices? And look at the fact that the game had 33% more memory than the SNES did all of those 8 extra megs just go to the intro screen?

The 32X version had crisper visuals while the SNES had brighter colors. The audio sounds similar to me. The controller is a personal preference.
But what makes the game better in my opinion? The single player. I like the AI progression more in 32X than SNES. That makes it possible for me to beat everyone in one continue without having to resort to Kung Lao for the cheap wins.
So you get similar fun in the multiplayer, more fun in the single player, crisper graphics and similar audio. That, to me, makes the 32X version better.
But if you were more concerned with the graphics and audio, shouldn't your favorite have been the arcade version though? I'm just wondering because while the Arcade does everything better than all the other versions, it's single player is designed to take your money. It goes back to the whole Kung Lao thing.

Conjosh, I hear you about the crappy single player AI! Midway has always been pretty bad with their AI. :| Still, I do feel the 32X version of Mortal Kombat II could have been better than it was. Do you also have the Saturn version?
Also, you might appreciate this. I've got ALL the different chip sets for Mortal Kombat II (arcade)! I can plug in 2.1 and crash the machine with Baraka's baby slaughter!!! That was always one of my favorite things to do back in 2.1 days! :SM14

Na, I don't have the Saturn version. I heard it has horrible load times though. I would like to pick it up at some point though!
I wish I had all of the MK2 arcades :(

I never really tried to beat the 32X version much but I do feel like 32X version is still grainy. Not nearly as bad as the Genesis version. But I felt like the audio in the 32X was still lagging behind the SNES. I have no idea why Probe decided to remix the music but they didn't get it right until the SAturn version. Which is how the 32X should've looked and sounded. But I I don't consider the arcade game cause I can't afford one anyways.

I played Blackthorne a lot, thought it was so fun. Same for Kolibri.
I'll agree with Hawk in saying that Space Harrier was the best 32x game.
