The guy doing the cover art never even saw pictures of the game half the time. Hell, look at Bomber Raid. It's got a SR-71 Blackbird on the cover and it's a WWII game.

Hahaha! Too true! I think the guy who did the artwork had a roommate that wrote the description on the back:

"Who has Mach-6 speeds, helabad weapons, and a love for wastin' dweebs in tanks? You do. Take to the skies with Two-Mega fire-power in the gnarliest fighter-bomber game ever."

EDIT: Wait a second! How do the planes in Bomber-Raid out speed the jets in After Burner? BR states Mach 6. AB states Mach 5!!! :SM5

Yeah. All the box art was pretty goofy for those older games. It's like they had a good time making them have as little do with the game as possible......even though it was probably just that no one gave a fuck. I'd like to think it was all for the good times, though.

SMS covers are some of the best and goofiest covers around.

I think the worst part of the AB2 box is that it isn't even artwork. They just slapped a photo of the wrong jet on there.

LOL! I never even thought about it much as a kid, because it seemed the box art rarely matched the game details EVER! I mean, we'll just take my first Master System game... Alex Kidd doesn't have blond hair! :p Still, I think the funniest game box art EVER was the original Mega Man on the NES! I know that box has gotten an Internet following since then, but I remember as a kid thinking how weird it was in relation to the game itself!

As for Bomber Raid... I DID notice that difference! Thought it was cool anyway though since I was a HUGE airplane/jet fan as a kid (ready to join the Air Force on my 18th birthday and everything)... I had models of SR-71 Blackbirds in decorating my room and Bomber Raid's box looked cool with them! B-)
