View Full Version : SEGA game(s) you'd most like a sequel to?

I'd have to say either Dragon Force 2, Burning Rangers or Landstalker = J

Nights, or PDS.

^Great picks YankeeH8er. I thought of both actually but I hesitated since we're getting a new NiGHTS now and Panzer Saga had a sequel, it just wasn't an RPG (fair enough though, considering Saga's predecessors weren't RPGs).

Then again...another Panzer RPG would give the original the attention it always deserved...

Honestly- of all SEGA's systems, I personally believe the Saturn had the most innovative games that never had their time in the sun- or a part 2 : {

I agree that the Saturn had a ton of great games that did not get the attention they deserved.

I'd have to say either Dragon Force 2

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a389/pzykotikjp/drag1et2.jpg

And Dragon Force 2 is actually pretty cool. Fixed my major complaints with the original anyways. :)

In so far as what I would like to see a sequel of:
Shenmue III so the story could be finished.
Eternal Champions because it would be fecking awesome.
Decap Attack because it would be fecking awesome.
Skies of Arcadia because... well... it would be awesome.

Wouldn't want to see a new PDSaga unless Yukio Futatsugi was making it. With Smilebit gone I think Sega would fuck a new Panzer Dragoon up royally.

oh man, my list is long!!!

first and foremost, a PS5. i love PSO and all but, i want a good offline adventure, as epic as the others were!

Shenmue 3, but let it be more like 2 than 1, coz 1 sucked and 2 ruled.

nights is coming so thats out...

a new Streets of Rage.

The revival of Wonderboy on DS. thatd be awesome.

Zillion. though im like, one of the three people on earth who remember and love it.

penguin land with the touch screen function would be amazing.

a new PD on wii, that while being on rails, you had the aiming function and 2d free flying control with the nunchuk movement.

thats whats on the top of my mind.

Bruhaha69

Skies of Arcadia 2 on the Wii would be awesome.

Most of the major ones have already been mentioned, so I'll say some like

Scud 2, especially if it were 2D on the DS or in Arcade format. They could fix it up to be a super awesome shooter with better controls.

Also I'd love to see another Fighter's Megamix type game, with an upgraded roster and visuals.

Added fighters could include the Hazuki's, or anyone from that series (like Ren)
Some Phantasy Star characters ala Last Bronx/Soul Calibur (Chaz with a saber etc)
Alex Kidd could finally make his Jan Ken Po punch combo come to life!
Axel, Blaze or anybody from SoR
NiGHTS and Reala. You know you've wanted to see them duke it out.
The Disposable Assassin. :D
The Clockwork Knight brothers Tongara, Ginger!

Anyways, you get what I mean.

I realize Smash Brothers did this in 1999, but you all know Fighter's Megamix was in 1996!

Yo Shinobi

You know Scud is an actual comic book character right? It was Rob Schrab's (Monster House, Sarah Silverman Show) first labor of love, and it is my personal favorite comic book ever made. He made 20 issues back in the mid-90s and now, a decade later, he's working on the FINAL issue of Scud!!!!! He'll be releasing an "omni book" which will contain all the Scud comics if you missed though, and it will also include Scud #21!!!!

But I don't think it'll have the off-shoot comics (La Cosa Nostroid, Drywall, The Drywall and Oswald Show, Tales from the Vending Machine).

http://www.scud.com

Fuckin' love that comic.

jp
04-14-2007, 05:05 PM
I would definitely recommend. They're AWESOME!!! Just... sheer awesomeness. Funny, violent, just... everything. I love it!!!!!

Though if you don't want to spend $100 or so dollars collecting the set, you could always wait for the "omni book". Though if you can't wait for that I totally understand.

"I'M JESUS WITH A LASER GUN!!!! AND YOU'RE ALL GOING TO HELL!!!!"

The DnD issue was just

Bruhaha69
04-14-2007, 05:20 PM
I wish I loved Scud (the game) but it was just too awful the way the screen scrolled. It was like you walked a couple feet, jammed on the guns, walked a couple more feet, jammed on the guns, etc.

I thought it looked nice. It could have been an awesome game, but to me it was only alright.

The moment I thought it would be positively awesome to have a new PD on the Wii was when I controlled the flying, dark monster in "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess". Soaring up and down through that canyon really brought back memories, and made me drool in anticipation of a title that will probably never come. Oh, a new PD, how I pine for you!

I also pine for new Saga, naturally, but we'd get "Skies of Arcadia II" before we'd get that. Not that I'd be unhappy with a SoA2, but I want another PDS more, personally.

Yep. Most of the graphics were redone (especially in the story scenes), and I think they gave it more voice acting and reworked script, too. It looked really good. For a budget game, anyway.

Conspiracy was supposed to release those, but they're fuck ups that can't even get a gam onto shelves, so it suffered the same fate as the Treasure Tiny Toons games. There wasn't even a good reason for it, just that conspiracy was in a finanial blac hole and couldn't get their shit together. I bet they still have the right, too, which keeps anyone else from localizing them.

Thx for the vid JP, that would've been the game to show what the Saturn was truly capable of...sometimes its sad that its potential was so rarely if ever met...well, at least SEGA learned their lesson when the DC came around.

It's times like this when I really miss Vic & Working Designs...although I hear him and SOA had a real bad falling out prior to their departure...

Yeah, Bernie Stolar is a fucking asshole. I mean, I'm still pissed at Vic for out right NOT supporting the DC despite Bernie Stolar being long gone (so many great RPGs that should have been localized...) and I'm still a bit pissed at Vic for the Saturn not getting localized Lunar remakes (though the Sega CD versions shit on the remakes anyways).

But Bernie Stolar wouldn't let Tecno Soft put their games out in the US. Bernie Stolar said RPGs were worthless. Bernie Stolar pissed off all kinds of 3rd party devs which affected Saturn support even in Japan where it was doing fairly well. For every cool thing Stolar did... he did 10 things that fucked Sega over. Though to be completely fair, Sega of Japan is was also greatly responsible for Sega's downfall. But the Saturn's downfall? Outside of the forced surprise early launch that shit was all on Stolar.

Oh, Bernie Stolar also refused to release the 4MB cart (or any non-memory cart). So... there's reason to hate him #1!!! Capcom was even prepared to put it out in the US themselves... but by then they saw how much damage Stolar had done and decided not to.

Fuckin' Bernie Stolar. :disgust: If Kalinske had hung around for the Saturn there's no doubt in my mind things would've been different.

As for the main topic, it will never happen but I would love to see a 2d sequel to Kenseiden. Most good Sega games got at least one sequel but Sega likes to pretend this game doesn't exist. I can't even find the name of one person that worked on it.

Frogacuda
04-22-2007, 04:13 PM
I'm pretty sure it had a credits roll, didn't it? I haven't played it all the way to the end in a couple years, but I remember some kind of end scroll with him walking away from the burning building.

But yeah, we've talked about Kenseiden many times, and it is absolutely one of the very best 8-bit games, and Sega really should have done a sequel on Genesis when the opportunity was prime.

NeoZeedeater
04-22-2007, 05:32 PM
Nope, there's no credit roll in the import or domestic versions. None of the people in the album section of SoJ's website have it listed as a game they worked on either.

So I'm not the only one who prefers the original Lunar over the Saturn/PSX version? Well whaddaya know XD

What awesome RPGs did the DC miss out on in America? I thought we got most of them at least...

jp
04-22-2007, 07:48 PM
I don't see how anyone could prefer the remake of Lunar: SSS. They took out the bit where Galeon is in your team in the beginning. That was one of the coolest things ever IMO.

Segagaga is a big one. Sakura Taisen would've been nice, but I'm sure someone will point out that didn't come out in the US on the Saturn either. We missed out on Capcom's El Dorado series. Langrisser Millennium. Black Matrix. Napple Tale. Sunrise Eiyuutan.

OK, on second thought, I guess high profile RPGs didn't really wind up on the DC. :p

Frogacuda
04-22-2007, 07:56 PM
I thought Segagaga was more of a Sim/strategy game with some RPG elements. Sakura Taisen is more of an adventure/strategy game as well.

There are a lot of DC RPGs we didn't get though. I did a thread about it which is long gone, but it was like a good 15 games or so. Black Matrix and Despiria come to mind. I don't remember all of them/

I forgot about the El Dorados...and Segagaga. And Langrisser. AND Napple. Guess we DID miss quite a few then...sigh. As far as some of the games mentioned earlier in this thread are concerned (like Kenseiden), I don't think we should ever completely count out the possibilty of a sequel. Sure, most of the time SEGA seem to forget or disregard some of their more beloved or classic IPs, but every now and again they up and surprise you with a Journey of Dreams or Toejam & Earl 3.

I mean look, just within the next year or two we're supposed to be seeing a new Golden Axe and Alien Syndrome! Not to mention NiGHTS & Samba (more recent but still), and...

HawkClay
04-26-2007, 04:49 PM
Frog, I haven't ever done anything like that, but I'd DEFINITELY be up for some Quartet online! I'm sure Newport would be game too... and with one more (maybe my brother would be up for it), then we could have a full Quartet team! :O I haven't had THAT in YEARS! :O *faints*

*recovers*

And it's funny y'all are talking about the Lunar remakes! :O (< My overused smiley for the post) My brother and I were JUST talking about the remakes, and how Eternal Blue is his favorite game EVER! Lunar for Sega CD is the only true RPG that I've played all the way through multiple times, but it's always been one of my absolute favorites! Eternal Blue was one my brother got... and I never got to play it much on Sega CD since he pretty much hogged the system at the time, and I was distracted with something else that I can't remember... but then the remakes came out on PlayStation and I got both of them!

The packaging was AWESOME, and I loved that they added new cinemas... but I thought most people liked the remakes more... Personally, I thought the soundtrack was better in the Sega CD version (weird changes), the overworld wasn't NEARLY as cool as the classic RPG style overworld, and Alex TALKED! OK, so he had ONE line in the Sega CD version (Ghaleon wait! What are you doing?) :sonyaheart: but with a voice, he kind of reminds me of "The Beaver" (Leave it to Beaver)! Yeah, lots of cool stuff was added to the package, and the story was pretty much the same, but I thought some of the changes were just wrong!

As for the Eternal Blue remake, I can't comment much on that one since I didn't play a lot of it on either system. I was planning on playing both the PlayStation remakes REALLY soon though (I actually put in Silver Star Story Complete last week, but got sidetracked on Super Paper Mario).

It's cool to see that at least 2 other people like the original better as well! I'm not exactly sure where my brother stands on original vs. remake, but I know he likes the remakes quite a bit... Sad thing is, we BOTH hold Lunar on quite a pedestal (as well as my other brother), so the three of us are HUGE Lunar fans... but we ALL think that Lunar Dragon Song (DS) is the absolute WORST DS game we've played! It's like the designers got together and tried to figure out everything they could do in an RPG to simply piss off gamers (this may be the start of a new topic). God, I HATE that game! I couldn't play it very far at all before I was driven mad!

On a final note...

Kenseiden is cool! It was one of the few games I bought for the Master System when it was still full price... and Oneironama makes an excellent point... I never would have dreamed we'd be seeing another Alien Syndrome game, so there's still a faint sliver of hope! :O (< For good measure)

haha, me too. I'd buy a Playstation 3 for a new, true Phantasy Star RPGMe too actually, and that's saying ALOT!

For an all-new, turn-based, Phantasy Star V that was a TRUE successor to the series? What I wouldn't do...although it's true that part IV wrapped things up quite nicely (better than most RPGs actually...love them for that :3), there's always the question of life after the Profound Darkness...lives left to live, stories untold. I know I'm game = J

Hey Hawk, good to see you here too! *waves*

It was great to see a series like Lunar get remakes, that doesn't happen too often, especially games that aren't so mainstream, and I'm glad they got to broaden their audience by doing so. It's only when comparing to the originals that I begin to lose my enthusiasm. Some of the musical changes did not make ANY sense (what happened to that awesome sweeping battle theme? *sob*), no Ghaleon in the party like JP said (What if I wanted to use his "rock n roll" spell? lol), and the dungeons and overworld just didn't ...feel...the same. At all.
Although I do appreciate their efforts to give fans some slight twists here and there, like with Luna and the boat. I don't know why, but I preferred the original's random battles too...

For the record, I think Eternal Blue's remake was far more faithful, I don't think you'd have too many problems with it. In fact, it's almost as if they did that one over just to re-complete the series, as there are no significant story changes unlike the Silver Star (plz someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Both still awesome, just not quite AS awesome =P

PS: I would LOVE another Astal or Daytona...I'd rather not think about it right now though.

PPS: I REALLY need to play some SMS sometime...

PPPS: I didn't mention Dragon Song on purpose...

Hi Oneiron! :D Yep, been here a few months now! Good to see you around these parts too! It's more active than IGN is now that most people here have left... Plus night and Tyga have quit going to IGN as well, so it's REALLY slow over there. Not that I have the ability to be the most active or anything, but seeing SOME change in the day is good! :p

Frog, I talked with my brothers last night, and they are both DROOLING at the thought of being able to play online 4 player Quartet! I have played around with Emu's and stuff, but never got too hard core into them... and my brothers have done even less than I have, so this came as quite a shock to them that this was even possible! My youngest brother doesn't currently have Internet access, and my middle brother and I would need the tools required to do this, but they both want to do this! Since you are familiar with this kind of thing, is it possible for 2 of us to play on one computer and still be able to link up? How does that work?

On the topic of Lunar, my youngest brother had his interest piqued when talking about being able to play Quartet online... He said it would be cool for us to be able to play Secret of Mana together again (one of the greatest gaming moments of our life was the three of us playing through Secret of Mana together all the way through). I mentioned to him that we should do Secret of Mana 3 since we never got to play it... So then he was concerned about the Japanese text... and I told him with these they had games that were made available already translated! You should have seen his jaw hit the floor! He was super excited to hear that there's a Secret of Mana 3 translated game available... and then I told him about Monster World IV having a translation too and he's giddy! He wants to know though, is there a fully translated version of Lunar Magic School available? I have no clue since I haven't really done much outside of a few games, but figured Frog would be the one to ask! ;)

AND HECK YEAH ON THE FANTASY ZONE COMMENT! Seriously! :flirt:

And Miracle Warriors is one I STILL pick up and play every year! It's crazy looking at how basic that game is, and yet it still seems to hold up if you can take it being so dated! I totally think it could be done in today's day and age... but I'm not expecting to ever see it happen though. :(

Since you are familiar with this kind of thing, is it possible for 2 of us to play on one computer and still be able to link up? How does that work?
I'm not positive, but I think so, as long as you have two controllers (or one person doesn't mind using the keyboard). I'll play around with it once I get a couple of the reviews I have due finished.

He wants to know though, is there a fully translated version of Lunar Magic School available? I have no clue since I haven't really done much outside of a few games, but figured Frog would be the one to ask! ;)
Naflign was working on it years ago, and some good progress was made, but I don't think it was ever finished... The GG ones might though.

Night and Tyga both left IGN? Wow. I talked to Tyga a couple of weeks ago and it sounded like everything was good with him. I wonder why he stopped posting?

Yeah. I didn't really notice until I was talking to you about who was still there. But night left a couple days before your April Fools thing and never came back. Didn't say why. Just Hawk, Bru, Me, Oneiron, Pinkace and Orient, pretty much.

Night hasn't posted in a month, and Tyga has been gone for longer than that! Tyga is pretty active on MySpace now, so I think he's pretty much moved on to that instead.

I sure wish I knew Japanese... And on top of that, how to edit a game to English myself! :( I need to move to Japan and just live there for a few years so I can learn the language... because I don't know if I will learn it unless I don't! :(

I know a couple people that are into the game translation thing. They're working on Segagaga right now, and one of them is doing a re-translation of the DC Space Channel 5 Part 2.

Like voice and everything? I'm not sure why anyone would need much of a translated SC5p2... or why anyone would really bother with translating that one. Segagaga on the other hand is one that I would LOVE to have a translation of! :flirt:

Yeah, I can't say I understand his fascination with re-translating it. He refuses to play the official US PS2 version, either. I think he's just doing it for fun.

As soon as I get word on that one being done, you know I'll let everyone know.

Speaking of translation projects, has "Policenauts" ever been fully translated? I never found a full English script, but the game naturally has a gargantuan amount of text, so this is not surprising.

Still, I haven't checked in a few years, and I know that some people make simpler translation scripts which only contain the essential, main story dialogue (which would be fine too).

May as well ask.

Stay tuned. A full hack of the PlayStation version will be done by the end of the year.
