There's just something about it that I absolutely love! I was listening to the music from Rambo First Blood: Part 2 thinking about how much I just liked the actual sound of it... and the melody is catchy too! I think a lot of it is the percussion sounds it puts out as well as the distinct sounds it has for other pieces of the song. Anyway, just curious, because I love Master System music... and yes, I know about the Japanese FM sound capabilities... but there's just something special about the raw music in regular Master System games! :flirt:

Hells yes man. I love the music in SMS games.

It's not that different from the sound chip in the NES. But yeah, some of those tunes really strike a chord with me. A few (Penguin Land and Kenseiden for example) even sound better with the regular SMS sound than with the FM module.

Do you mean it's not that different from NES in terms of the way the music sounds in games or from a technical capability point of view?

To answer Hawk's question, I love the hell out of it. I think the SMS had a great, unique sound.

I love the SMS' signature sound. Compile was especially good at using it (Golvellius and R-Type stand out). Even Compile's NES games sound SMS-like to me.

I think NES sound tends to be a bit more varied though because of the various chips added to cartridges.

I would have liked to hear more original European game soundtracks on SMS. Robocop versus The Terminator has a great one. You can tell the composer made C64 games before it.

I mean the sounds it generated (basic sawtooth, square wave, and sine wave) were similar, as was the way it worked.

Ahhh.

As much as I loved the SMS sound, a lot of games did sound similar. It kinda reminds me of the SNES in terms of being able to easily tell "this is an SMS game". Easily distinguishable sound.

I love how they used Vibrato in there tunes, though. That was somewhat unique to the SMS.
