So I have a 30 GB ipod photo (the older 4th generation with no video) I am very happy with it and got it for a great price when it was on clearance. The zunes look pretty sweet, especially the halo theme one, but I've heard the sales for them have been pretty bad. My girlfriend just ordered one online the other day so I can't wait to see what it has to offer. Anyone else have mp3 players and can't get enough of them?

Id buy a Halo 3 Zune, but have no need.

My g/f has the Creative Zen M and I have the iPod 80 one. While the iPod software is cool, the Creative software is much more transfer friendly with standard mp3 formats.

I just recently picked up a 60 GB Toshiba Gigabeat and it's great except for the fact that there is a limited number of accessories for it. I'm not all that keen on iPods simply because they are so limiting out of the box. You have to use iTunes with it. Although, if you're part of the Mac cult, it's a necessary idol.

Why do you need so much space? I and make do with about 600MB of music on my phone, and have plenty of room left over for games, audio books, and even movies.

It can double as a portable hard drive and movies can take up quite a bit of room.
Those Creative Zen Ms are sexay (if a little big)!

yeah the ipods are limited. I don't mind using itunes and I have ways to get around its limited options such as not letting the user move music from ipod to the computer.

theyre disposable, theyre not built to last more than a year, they have huge incompatibility issues, they force you to use itunes which is the slowest, crappiest audio program in the universe, theyre overpriced, and mine almost died with my whole thesis on it. it worked after a million tries, got my archives out of it, and havent used it since. fuck that shit.

I agree itunes isn't that great compared to others but I think its organized in a very nice way. My ipod has worked fine since I got it in 2005 and it was a display model. I don't think the ipod was designed for a college based thesis in mind. Should have used something more hardcoooooore

Everyone should get a Zune, because it's Microsoft, and everyone knows Microsoft has the Raptor Jesus Seal of Approval.

Yeah, that's like DOUBLE the Raptor Jesus in one small box.
Actually, its got exclusive RvB content too, so it's more like Triple Raptor Jesus and a Spaghetti Monster to boot! The Flying Kind!

I was gonna say iPods blew monkey sperm but figured I'd get laughed off the board. Good to know there are people out there that value their freedom.
Buying an i-anything is like saying to Apple... "All right I'm ready... shackle me up to itunes and please try and use some lubrication now and again as my ass is quite sensitive.":nonono:

lol...itunes works fine for many of us -- it supports all the formats I need, handles podcasts easily, let's me listen to streaming radio easily, has an easy to use and understand interface, organizes with album art which I like and has all kinds of metadata you can embed (which I like for all my Asian music)... and since I work in education, a lot of academic institutes are using iTunes U for file hosting for class lectures etc, so it makes since for me to use it overall... that being said, I don't often do the whole iTunes store thing (even with the new DRM music, it isn't a high enough bit rate for me) ... so I buy the CD, rip it, add the artwork and other data and go from there...
As far as hardware -- iPod shuffle (the new clip kind) works fine for me and is a must at the gym...it's tiny, I don't need a screen, and it works fine...
I'm not that experienced with other audio programs, though I did like using winamp on the PC...
Anyone care to share legitimate reasons iTunes sucks over other programs?

w00t I love you lol. I don't like winamp to much, but windows media 10.0 is excellent.

slow, has shit i dont need, creates compatibility issues on most pcs when used with an ipod, is limited, doesnt support a lot of formats i do use, and for putting metadata and actually working audiophiles, pro programs, which i use, just kick its ass. its so bad, its ridiculous. its just a goddamned store in a software.

Man, you really hate this thing... I'm not saying I love it, but I am saying it works fine for me...
Not sure about slowness... I use it on PC and Mac and it runs fine...
what file formats are you talking about?
But pro programs are for experts, no (and cost money?)? This is a free, simple to use program...
I do have to say that I hate the sync to crap that they instituted a little while ago -- it's obnoxious...

Maybe I'm weird, but I really don't need that much space. I don't want all my music when I'm out. I want the best stuff, and I don't want to wade through tracks I'm not into to get to it. Also I hate that stupid ipod wheel, among other problems all ready stated with the device.
I have my eyes set on one of these for my upcoming brithday.

My brother has had the 512 mb (which I will admit is way too small) version for a few years now and I've had the joy of borrowing it a couple times. I really like the interface, plus it's actually small enough to fit in your pocket, hell you could hang it from your keychain if you use the protective plastic skin for it. I think I'm going for the 2 gb version.

This be the truth. Thank goodness Vpod (some old ass program) works with iPod Shuffle clips (got it for Christmas) so I don't have to deal with that bloated piece of garbage.
In the end, XP64 and itunes = reformatting time....

itunes sucks because it won't allow you to swap songs BETWEEN ipods! So unless the song you want is on the hard drive, you SOL. With the Creative software, its all good. Now if someone can suggest a program that lets me swap ACC files between ipods, then I'm all ears!

that sync shit and the store are the price you pay. nothing is free.
also, mixing audio for parties, broadcasting, etc with it is a huge pain, and since i work doing those things, i stay away from it. like i told darth, if it works for you, thats great. but when you want control and quality, its on the lower tiers of quality. kinda likle using movie maker for editing video.

you can do it, but its a chore, and a fucking pain if youre doing it on a mac.
you have to see the hidden files, copy and paste the files ( which are codenamed and in a million different directories ), then put them on the computer, make itunes load them, and then sync with the other ipod.
its a pain inmac, because to actually see the hidden files you have to input some codes into the system. not as easy as right clicking and fixing the directory profile.
I'm getting my Halo Zune in about a week.

I won an ipod in a competition and it works fine. A mini - 4Gb. I use a plugin for winamp 2.95 to put music on it and that means that I can take it off onto other people's computers too, with a little bit of searching through id3 tags (the names are scrambled and they're in weird folders, but you can definitely get the music off).
Meh. I probably wouldn't buy one, but I think the main issue's with itunes which is, in my opinion, satan's work.

I use a simple ipod shuffle with .5 gb. I'd like to upgrade one of these days, but the shuffle seems just fine for me for now. I'm sure if I had the chance to use one of the newer kinds it would be hard to go back, but for now I prefer the simplicity of my shuffle. I'm the same way with cell phones. I like the simplest version. I've had cells with all the extras, but I rarely use all the extra crap.
