Yes. I remember reading an interview and their exact words about the first boss were "You'll notice the first boss was designed to be a psycho alien pussy". I'll see if I can dig up the article.

That reminds me of some shmup I played years ago. It had this really freaky looking boss, some pulsating eye-brain thing. If I can remember what it was I'll go look for a pic to post here.
