I hope the fight scenes aren't so close up and shaky this time. That was one thing I didn't like about Batman Begins. It wasn't awful, I just didn't like them too much.
I like the suit. It'll be weird to see him moving his head around. I've become used to Batman moving his entire body to look around in these movies.
Do we have any idea how long this is supposed to be after Batman Begins? I'm hoping it's not too far out because the look of the bike is a bit too much like the Batmobile in Begins. It's cool, but it doesn't really scream "Batman" to me. Whatever the case is, I loved Begins, so I'm looking forward to this.

awesome news and pics advocate. I am concerned about the amount of villians too as we know how Spiderman 3 handled that..
Advocate
07-20-2007, 10:22 AM
To Hunter and Darth: Batman Begins had 4 villians. Scarecrow, The slimeball CEO, Rash, and Falcone. Now its reduced to 2 main and the other ones have small 30 second cameoes to set up their appearance for future sequels.
To Bru: Not far off actually. Its been only 3 months.
To JP: Heath Leger was handed two things for his role.
1: A DVD of a Clockwork Orange.
2: The Graphic Novel - A Killing Joke.
Nolan said A colockwork Orange is how the film will feel. So Nolan said pay more attention to the aura of the film. The way its shot and the mood. He said when you read the Killing Joke. That's how I want YOU to act as the joker.
May I add ... Nolan is the man. One A Clockwork Orange is awesome and a Killing Joke was the best damn Joker story .... ever. So if Nolan did what he said he did. I have NO DOUBT about Leger being the Joker.
None.

Great stuff so far. The only thing I heard that I really don't like is that Ras is not dead. Of course that is rumor, but how many villains are they going to end up with as the movies progress? OH MAN!!! It's SO hard to not build this up too much! Seriously, I CAN NOT WAIT to see this movie!!! SERIOUSLY!!! Dang, it's looking REALLY cool in just the few shots you have there! The Joker looks great in the same way Scarecrow looked great based on his transition from comics to the big screen! Definitely different with the long hair... but with it not being so perfectly combed, it can play off a more craziness of the character too... but I'm wondering if he's going to be REALLY crazy yet, or if this will play off him getting crazier and crazier as things progress. Should be interesting!
I just watched Batman Begins for like the 30th time, and dang, I STILL love that movie! I was going to have it playing in the background while I did other things around the house, but I ended up getting hooked and watched the whole thing again! It's strange though, because there isn't like ONE scene in Begins that really stands out as really great, but the whole movie just works SO WELL in my opinion! It's going to be a hard one to top, and I don't want to get my expectations set TOO high for the sequel, but dang... The Joker is one of the greatest villains ever created, and if they do him justice, then it could potentially be the best comic movies EVER! Hopefully they don't kill him off like they did with Jack! :|

I don't understand. The city in Begins is a city. He is basing it off of reality and not trying to comic book it up.
Bruhaha69
06-18-2008, 12:57 AM
Not sure what you don't understand. If we're only talking about these latest 2 movies, the first had a very dark atmosphere and city while this one looks like NY city with Football stadium lighting (based on the previews I've seen). it just looks to plain-old city for my tastes.

The first was shot almost entirely at night. This one is using the light and dark to contrast between Two Face ... being good and evil. Also, this one he faces his fears and who he REALLY is ... is he a villain or a hero.
So, yeah thats why I didn't get what you were talking about. I've followed this movie for a long time. So, excuse me.

Nah, I haven't been paying attention to this one. I thought Begins was great, but I haven't kept any tabs on who handles what and their inspirations for doing it.
July 18th cannot get here soon enough.
Though... well... what Joker are they basing this off of? Because the way they're doing him seems very very very different from the way he is... in... well... everything.
I dunno, very rare that you see the Joker walking around looking like a bum. And from the trailers he's just... not quite psychotic enough. Too organized. Especially if he's offering his services to the crime lords... thats not something the Joker would do...
I dunno, I remember reading they wanted this to be like "The Killing Joke", but this portrayal of the Joker isn't making me think that. In fact, this portrayal isn't really making me think of any versions of the Joker.
Not necessarily saying thats a bad thing mind you. Just making an observation.

Yo, I saw it this evening and I have to write this. IT FUCKING ROCKED!
"It'll do ... till the Dark Knight comes out, then you're screwed."
"Christian Bale will kick your ass."
How prophetic were those words. Yeah we all knew it would be good, but THIS GOOD?
The hypetrain left the station and I am at the front cab, WHOOOP WHOOOP!
Holy Crap! The writing to the acting was excellent. Each person delivered, it was more than a comic/superhero movie it truly was a great overall movie. I agree that you need to see it twice to fully comprehend the overall story. Its a multi-layered movie, more than you expect a typical summer movie to be. I read everyones take on it and avoided the spoilers. But I didn't really think I would be thrust into a world as complex as the current run of Batman by Grant Morrison. The music fit the film it wasn't anything to write home about, but it wasn't annoying either. It fit and always kept the tempo of the film, which is what it should do. I mean jesus the themes in that are the same damn thing in Batman RIP. He's being put through the ringer. By someone he doesn't quite understand. He thinks of leaving the business and he has to chose in doing something he never thought he'd do.
I do agree the fight scenes were better this time. And yes Dyne he did a two fisted punch, it was at the High Rise tower in HK. After he crashes into the window. I like the fact they pulled the camera back a bit. It still did the quick cuts, but it was less annoying and since it was pulled back the overall flow of the fight lasted a bit longer. The
Dance Club figh scene was still a bit annopying, but I think it was more because of the strobe light.
Yes its foreshadowing and yes most people do it, but Nolan did foreshadowing so well and contrasting day and night. Most of what The Joker did was during the day. And at Night Batman went on the attack. You could see that The Joker was creating Chaos for Batman. Does Bruce forego his secret identity and attack The Joker then ... or wait it out and attack him at night as Batman. In certain cases he chose to involve the Bruce persona to protect the innocent during the day. There by bluring the line between Batman and Bruce ... another theme in Batman RIP.
Great and memorable scenes for me:
I'm going to make this pencil disappear.
WHY SO SERIOUS? LET'S PUT A SMILE ON THAT FF-ACE!
The question about firepower to a swat van and then The Joker gets a bazooka.
Special package for The Commisioner.
"How do you plead?" The entire defendant side speaks up.
The Detonator.
The you got lucky, but he didn't? "Who?" "Your driver." BLAM!
Batman and The Joker's interogation. OMG. That was almost exactly Batman v. Joker in Hush. Holy crap. I was in tears of joy, that whole scene and the interaction was fucking Batman 614 Hush storyline. When Batman punches Jokers hand, that reaction was almost like in the comic where Harley smashes Jokers hand with a hammer.
The final words from The Joker to Batman ... yeah Killing Joke.
This is by far one of the best movies I've seen this summer. Not to mention the best representation of The Batman and his nemesis Joker ... ever. Iron Man is second, compared to this ... and I loved Iron Man.
good night going to bed. I have to get up in 2 hours for work. LOL.

I saw this on Thursday. Pretty kick ass, though it was an odd mix of a grittier, more "realistic" take on the character (as realistic as can be expect for a man in a rubber bat suit fighting crime) and then cartoonishly over-the-top. Joker talks about never having a plan but every move he pulls is some 10-layers deep human Rube Goldberg device that would have taken months of planning and preparation. There's a certain point and which the need for giant ass explosions and cheesy "You fell into my trap!" moments were taking away from the impact of the movie not adding to it, and I wish this had the restraint of the first movie in that regard.
That said, what a fucking cast. Ledger's interpretation of Joker was so much better than I gave him credit for, and really gives Nicholson a run for his money. I also like that they didn't feel compelled to stick close to the formula and do a Joker origin story, and then even teased the lack of an origin by having the Joker tell the story differently each time. I appreciated that. There were a lot of really great Joker moments like the ones Adam mentioned. I could have lived with out "Bus driver?" *convenient A-Team crash that could never have been that perfect* and Blowing up the Hospital in a way that would have taken a team of demo experts months and required full access to all the facilities. It's ok, Nolan, we'll still think this is a good movie if there were just a handful of strategically placed charges. We aren't retarded.
So yeah, I'd have to watch Begins again before I decide if I prefer that or this. This had a much better villain and it wasn't hung up on trying to build a mythology, but it also seemed like they were trying too hard to spend their pyrotechnics budget in the hopes of hypnotizing the mouth-breathers, and it was unnecessary because it was a very entertaining movie.

Awesome movie BTW! Definitely the best Batman movie I've EVER seen... INCLUDING Mask of the Phantasm! :o
You know, I've never seen Mask of the Phantasm, and I've seen every other episode of the animated series and it's my favorite on-screen version of the character... I really need to correct this.

I agree with what you said frog there were several unnecessarily cheesy lines during the semi chase. And yeah Joker seemed to have one brilliant plan after another and would always appear out of no where, but I let it slide for the most part because the strong points of the movie out weight all of that.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, it was a really fun movie, just a few things keep me from declaring it the best Batman without further consideration. I was very sick and underslept when I saw it (still recovering) and the fact that I stayed awake through it and enjoyed it in my state says a lot, trust me.

That's how joker always is in the comics. You can't forget as "dark" and "gothic" as this movie is trying to be, it's still following a comic. Even Frank Miller's Joker is insanely adaptable and resourceful, pulling ridiculous schemes out of his ass left and right. That's how he is.

What is so questionable about it? Gotham city is just a major metropolis, really nothing special about it.

There's a difference between a brilliant, cunning plan, and a showy, elaborate one that will fail if one person is standing 3 feet too far to the left.

I just want to add. They seem to be using the Grant Morrison Joker ... which states that The Joker is not so much a psychopath, but rather the most brilliant mind on Earth, who has clairvoyance and knows and plans 15 steps before it happens.
I mean each Time the Joker in the comic did something he had an answer and knew the next move Batsie would do. It was never quite explained in the comic, but Grant Morrison answered it in Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Also to answer the origin thing that Frog brought up. You do know that each one The Joker stated ... was his origin?
The first one: Was the one told from Detective Comics back in the late 60's.
The second one to Dawes: Was the one told from The Killing Joke.
There has never been a solid and concrete origin tale of the Joker.
NEVER.
The second one to Dawes: Was the one told from The Killing Joke.
Mmm... not quite. In "Killing Joke" the only involvement of his wife was that she was pregnant and, despite his being a failed comedian, she still supported him. And then she died in a fire the night before he was to go on that caper as "The Red Hood". She didn't leave him or have any scars or anything.
Then they kinda fucked it up in "The Return of Hush" or whatever the Batman Gotham Knight Hush story was, and added the gangsters killing his wife and stuff.
But you're right anyways. That is awesome that they captured his whole "reimagining himself" idea down pat. He never gives a solid origin, it just changes from time to time. :)

But they didn't bother to do a whole origin story to set up the movie and they referenced multiple origins to make light of that. I liked it. Superhero movies often spend too much time on origins and don't get to explore the characters as well because of it and maybe that even happened in this movie with Two-Face, but at least the Joker got to shine.

Because it doesn't match the look I imagine when I think live action Gotham City...

I just don't envision Chi-town as a real Gotham City... But it's all good, I still loved the movie so my only minor gripe doesn't really matter :)

I didn't mind the scaled down Gotham because it was part of what the movie was going for. This isn't Burton's Batman, it's a more down to earth approach

No, but he was also a gambler. He was a failed comedian, but before that he was a gambler.
Then they kinda fucked it up in "The Return of Hush" or whatever the Batman Gotham Knight Hush story was, and added the gangsters killing his wife and stuff.
I kinda hated that ... it was needless to continue the Hush storyline.
But you're right anyways. That is awesome that they captured his whole "reimagining himself" idea down pat. He never gives a solid origin, it just changes from time to time. :)
He has no past. The Joker is like Batman's self imagined demon. His white whale. He's Captain Ahab and The Joker is Moby Dick.
And this movie captured that ... perfectly.
And To Josh ... yes I always thought Gotham was NY .... OH WAIT ... IT IS. No really it is modeled aftyer NYC.
I kinda hated that ... it was needless to continue the Hush storyline.
Yeah, I hated the way they did the Joker in The Return of Hush. And the liberties they took with his backstory were just lame.
I don't even think Gotham Knight was a very good Batman comic at all to begin with though.
Though I cannot wait to see how Dini does Hush. I expect greatness from this. Hush is just on an entirely different level than Batman's other villains. And while I would love to see Hush in a movie, I know it wouldn't work with what Nolan is trying to do since Hush cannot possibly show up that early in Batman's career.

Gotham in Batman Begins seemed to be a bit more like those pictures you posted Josh esp having that nicely designed subway system going through Wayne enterprises. But alas no big deal :)

:goodpost:
spider man 3 had a huge dropoff after its 1st week. I don't think Batman will have it happen. I'm pretty confident to say that it will end up in the top 25 all time grossing films.

History channel has a batman tech show on (right now if you are PST). Basically it shows that all the tech in Dark Knight is either currently possible or soon will be. pretty cool.

I Just got back from watching it a second time at a very late showing with about 6 people in the theater and much more comfortable seats. Needless to say it was even better the second time as I noticed several things I didn't the first time :D

It'll feel more special that way and give me something else to look forward to later.
