i've been out of it for almost 5 years ... so seeing Bleach is a breath of fresh air. Last anime I had was Gasaraki and I only bought that out of friends request. And reaqlly I used to get imports so I would watch anime without subs and without dubs. I would get the translation off the web.

I caught up. I saw all 43 episodes on the net. I had to move my comp chair away and pull up my recliner, but damn it I saw all 43. 2 days and 43 episodes. Now I can't wait to watch more! YES!

ohh, yea, bleach is gonna get a lot better from there. its one of my favorites to watch right now...well..other then the fact that its in filler right now (subbed is anyways..)

So when are the next episodes coming out? Aren't they in reruns?

Depends on when you watch them. They're reruns during the week on Cartoon Network, but new episodes are broadcasted during their Adult Swim late Saturday nights.

or... You could just find the subs on YouTube or something like, and get your fill there... up to ep. 135, I think.

yeah I found them on a site ... so I've been watching the subs.

beware of filler.......cant remember where it starts..but your gettin close if your not in it yet...i think you may just have started it...

some where in the mid 60's filler starts....its not to bad..but if you wanna skip the filler, i think around 110 the real story starts again. (tho, there kinda back in a bit of filler again, it should be ending in a week or so...we hope..)

Trying to watch all anime is equivalent to trying to watch all live action television shows. You're going to come upon a lot more garbage than you are gems.

I adore anime as an entertainment medium, but am not really interested in shows like "Dragonball Z", "Inu-Yasha", "Bleach", and basically everything else like them -- that is, made-for-TV shows which go on far longer than they should and rarely (if ever) provide remotely deep stories.

My favorite anime movie of all time is "Metropolis". The more popular movies, like "Akira", generally bore me in their pseudo-intellectuality (and their fan followings which praise them as brilliant are equally tiresome). I'd get into the series that I enjoy, but I watch fansubbed material almost exclusively and thus, have seen too much to mention.

"Hajime no Ippo" is on my list of one of the best series ever created, though. It's extremely well-written; it truly makes you care about the characters.

I enjoy Bleach because it is the perfect mix of humor, action, and seriousness (though I read the manga and haven't watched the show yet).

I love anime, but am sick and tired of fan service love shows and junk robot shows. There's been some notable stuff in the past few years that I've enjoyed, but the really stellar stuff is in the feature length department.

LOL, I consider Akira and Ghost in the Shell among the better feature-length animated films, but I do agree that people over-intellectualize them. They really aren't that deep. Love Metropolis and Fighting Spirit (though I read the manga and didn't finish all of the anime).

Paprika by Satoshi Kon, which is coming out later this year, is superb and so is the recent Tales of Earthsea by Miyazaki's son. Brave Story wasn't a bad little Miyazaki-like adventure either. If you want a bit more experimental, go with Studio 4C stuff, like Mind Game. One of their films is hitting our shores on DVD later this year, can't remember the name.

I do agree that shows drag on too long. I love Ranma 1/2, Kenshin, and others, but they just get too long. Naruto was insane. After 200 episodes, I just had to stop the insanity. I prefer my shows to be no longer than 26 eps now.

Some stuff I'd recommend (off the top of my head and in no particular order): Chrno Crusade, Trigun, ROD (OVA and series), Technolyze, Desert Punk, Paranoia Agent, Hellsing, New Getter Robo (a violent Go Nagai show, fun but shallow), GTO, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Crayon Shin Chan...there are a lot of great, fun animes out there, but you have to weed through all the crap...

I'd love to hear about some of the better, non-mainstream stuff. I watch a lot of fansubs too, but don't have time to keep up with what is great and what is so so.

Gungrave was good. Reminded me of Berserk in some ways.

Golden Boy rules. Very funny, perverted humor.

honestly i really couldnt care how deep a series is, so long as i am enjoying watching it, for what ever reason, ill continue to watch it, and im willing to give just about any series a chance.

As for Naruto....skip the filler and you will be MUCH happier...(about 130 something filler starts...it gets really bad after about 145 or so......skip to..200? when Shippuden starts, its a bit slow at first, to much stalling, but its starting to get good again.

the way i see it, some series are to long, but if its to complete a big story, i dont mind, bleach and naruto have a very big story to tell, so i dont mind the length so long as they dont drag it out, so far (other then the filler in the anime) it hasnt been to bad.

I'm at 110 now on the Bleach - o - meter. I actually liked the Bounto episodes ... started off sucking major balls, but once they infiltrated SOUL SOCIETY. It got much better.

I may watch it sometime, but when I say series go on for "too long", I'm mostly referring to the ones which have a lot of filler. Such a waste of studio resources. It's like a crap comedy show. Occasionally, you might get a giggle, but why do people tolerate weeks of no entertainment to get there? There are so many other options.

Aye. They aren't. I believe the original "Ghost in the Shell" movie isn't nearly as good as "Standalone Complex". Such an excellent series, that.

Love Metropolis and Fighting Spirit (though I read the manga and didn't finish all of the anime).

I've never seen the US release of "Hajime no Ippo", but I hope it's a good translation. Absolutely fantastic show. Very manly too, for any folks looking for something with excellent combat but also, story you can appreciate.

So long as it's entertaining, I'll watch more than 26 episodes. I agree, however, that a lot of shows could have ended in that period of time and been fine.

Bolded the ones I strongly agree with (though I'm not disagreeing with the rest). "Crayon Shin Chan" is best viewed in Japanese with subtitles in my opinion, though, since it's censored in the US release (I still can't even believe it's on US television. Blew my mind). It's also very wacky and involves lots of ass cheeks and penis swinging. Pretty much the Japanese "South Park" without any political influence, for those not in the know.

I'll comment later, but it's time for me to get to work.

Then Raz what I suggest is like what everyone else said. Watch Bleach, but only the first 64.

The Bleach manga seemed a bit interesting to me, but it didn't sell too well here, so alas, it's on hiatus at our store. Naruto's like hotcakes. Weird.

I do dislike it when series go into ruts. DBZ did it all the time, and I now can't really stand to watch it. I have to agree with Raz - most series should try to trim the fat and stick with 26 or so episodes. Kenshin is the only exception I have made, and I stopped once the Kyoto arc ended...but it too has its fair share of filler episodes. Thankfully, most of them in the first two arcs are decent.

And I like Ghost in the Shell. GotS:STC is greater on the whole, but GotS isn't bad in my opinion. It's mind-opening in a way, but not super deep.

Fushigi Yuugi was like that. They knew the limits of the story and did like what 63 episodes and like 7 OVA's.

That was a huge series of manga, though, and they waited until they were finished, right? My knowledge of that series is not all that great. :p

Yeah the manga had more to offer too. I haven't watched the full thing, but I remember seeing like 4 episodes and it was pretty solid.

My thing is I noticed on the Bleach anime that they listed Shoen Jump as the distributor like Marvel you know. Then after 63 it starts showing some new company ... someone explain.

Also Wildcat ... you know why Naruto is more popular? Naruto is shown on a more kid friendly time. Bleach is on Cartoon Network, but theres so much blood and in Japanese theres a ton of cussing. That Bleach can only be shown at 12:30 am.

And the Japanese production house wants it that way. I would try and get the manga back in and try and sell the kids on it. Its a much better comic. The first 63 anime follow the first 63 mangas. And those mangas are more horror and serious toned too. I like it alot.

Heh, I'll see what I can do. I'm the one who brought manga to our store, so it's pretty much up to me to try to keep it a viable part of our sales. It's interesting how trends work. And you're right on the money with Naruto and TV - it's a hit with young teens (11 - 14), and that's pretty much who buys it. But we had #18 of Bleach for a few months...so maybe I'll try again at the beginning. #1 went quicker.
