Just a thread to talk about new movies you're looking forward to and then react to them as the come out.
Personally, I'm looking forward to:
No Country for Old Men: Coen Bros latest. I don't always like it when they get too far away from comedy, but this looks really badass.
Mr. Nobody: Belgian director Jaco Van Dormael is virtually unknown in the US, but this movie will probably change that. His earlier movies are brilliant, playful, creative, and masterfully directed. It's his first English-language film, and also the most expensive Belgian movie ever made. It's got a unique script that sounds like the perfect vehicle to show off Van Dormael's talents, and I'd be really surprised if it isn't fantastic.
Synecdoche, New York: Charlie Kauffman's directorial debut. I have some trepidation about Kauffman leaving behind his talented collaborators like Gondry and Jonze, but anything he does has my attention.
Frankie Machine: Scorcese gives DiCaprio a break and reuintes with DeNiro in a starring role for another mafia movie. I don't see how they could go wrong.

I was highly anticipating Beowulf. It's not often that I decide to go to the theater (I prefer watching movies at home, rather than with the unwashed masses).
Naturally, I haven't seen the film yet. The trailer was horrible enough. Talk about a let-down. Beowulf is a story that truly deserves to be done right. Unfortunately, this doesn't appear to be it.

Was greatly anticipating Julie Taymor's Across the Universe. It was decent and great in the artistic department, but as a movie it fell short.
There seemed to be no sense of cohesion throughout the film, it was more like a group of musical sequences patched together that showed little story in between to make you understand or even care what was happening.
I've seen rivers flow better past a concrete dam. But I did enjoy watching it, despite all that. *shrugs*

I'm not sure Beowulf could be done right as a movie. I sort of expected it to be bad, regardless of my opinion of the source material.
Also, despite the title, this doesn't have to just be about let-downs.

I'm still anticipating Beowulf. It looks wierd, yes, but I can't tell much beyond that from the trailers.
I'm anticipating Prince Caspian for some reason, even though I know it will be pretty much meh, like Lion witch wardrobe. :(

I wouldn't mind "weird." Hell, I would embrace it. It's just that the animation looked really, really bad.

Looking forward to the new Batman; expecting Beowulf to be a huge letdown; wondering if Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli have any upcoming films.

I'm definitely looking forward to Ponyo on a Cliff. Also the Dark Knight and Iron Man.
Did the Yakuza movie come out in Japan yet? I thought it was supposed to come out a while ago but can't find any fansubs or anything of it anywhere...

Did it?

I'm looking forward to Monster. And 3:10 to Yuma (for I haven't seen it yet). To an extent the Halloween remake as well, if its still in theaters.
The biggest disappoint me to me was "Perfect Stranger". That movie was fucking horrible and not at all what it was advertised to be (probably a smart move on their part). My biggest surprised was "Next", that movie was fucking cool.

Saw IV, bitches. I hope they wrap it up and the madness stops. No more torturing of people just because they're not perfect.

looking forward to seeing Eastern Promises
3:10 to Yuma was pretty good, but the first 30 min or so are horrible. It takes a bit of time for the plot to get started. Last half though is ole western goodness
