View Full Version : Game Overload

Well with the "Perfect Storm" of video game releases in full swing I have been feeling quite overloaded by the games on my plate. Currently I have the following new release games in need of attention.... ie I ain't even talking about the rest of my stuff. :(
Sega Rally Revo
Beautiful Katamari
The Orange Box
Guitar Hero III
Ace Combat 6
Then just around the corner I have....
Assassins Creed
Mass Effect
Mario Galaxy
And more..........
F-ing nuts I tell you! Anyone else feeling a bit overloaded? Its not the worst thing in the world mind you but this is probably the best time for a gamer in a long time IMO. So do you have a full plate of games and no time to play them?

yeah I am too because I can only afford like a game every couple of weeks :( Atleast I won't develop a huge backload but yeah too much shit coming out now/ soon.

Yeah, I pretty much play games all day and I still feel like I don't have enough time to play everything I want.

I'm feeling pretty overloaded.
- I recently got a Wii and I have a lot stuff to catch up with. I'm tempted to buy Zack & Wiki soon but I have been spending too much money.
- The Lynx games I ordered online over a month ago finally arrived (Frogacuda, Cybervirus is quite cool, pretty much what I expected an old-school mission-based FPS to be).
- I'm replaying Half-Life 2: Episode One as I finally fixed the problem it was having on my PC.
- I'm borrowing Dead Rising, Urban Chaos: Riot Response (underrated game), and Black off a friend.
- I put Tingle DS aside because it was dragging on a bit long but I want to go back and finish it soon.
There are tons more games out there and upcoming I want to play but there isn't enough time or money for it all.

That reminds me. I need a new Lynx. Mine still works, but only using batteries, which the Lynx doesn't exactly use efficiently.
Glad someone besides me finally played CyberVirus. Despite coming out almost 15 years after the system's release, it really is one of the better games on the system and, more importantly, captures what I liked so much about the system to begin with.

Yeah Call of Duty 4 was only missing from that list as there are too many and I knew I would miss one!
Urban Chaos Riot Response was a game I recently bought for the xbox on a knee jerk collectors reaction. Interesting to see someone else mention it and to do so in a positive way....... just might have to break the seal on that one and give it a go.

It's been this way for a couple years now. Then it didn't help that I got seriously addicted to R6 Vegas for several months. A huge tsunami of games built up during my addiction and now I'll never catch up. Many fun games will go overlooked. :(

Right now I am almost glad that my gaming budget is very limited. I already have a backlog of some 360 games that I need to play.
Lost Planet
Dead Rising
Bioshock
Yes I haven't finished any of those 3. I had been trying to complete more games with the 360 so they don't sit collecting dust. Unfortunately those 3 are on the back burner (along with some other titles) right now.
Just to name a few. Add to that I picked up Guitar Hero III and the huge amount of time I spend in Halo 3.
Plus I want to get COD4 and Mass Effect.
I am not going to even get into the Xbox, Gamecube and GBA games I have to play. I try not to think about them.

It's one of those games that looks like a generic FPS but stands out because of the weapons (the riot shield is really fun to beat guys with) and the arcade-ish vibe. It's not at the top of the genre or anything but it's worth playing.

well no one says you have to get a game RIGHT when it comes out and play it. Its not like any of these games will be hard to find in a few months time.

Same here. :(
It brings me back to a time when I was a little kid and my parents let me go hang out in the toy section while they shopped. They told me I could pick out one toy. Anyway, after an hour my mom came to get me and I still hadn't chose a toy because there were too many to choose from. I had just given up. :( Anyway mom led me away and I started to cry. That's how I feel now...like I'm being led away from a game store, giving up and crying. :(

so ask for more than one choice :D
Thankfully, the only game I'm looking forward to for the rest of the year is Mass Effect.

not really. ive decided on a few games im going to get for the rest of the year, and dont really have much time to play anything else.
With that said, im DESPERATE to get GH3, but dont have money. i was going to get it for 360 and buy a new guitar, but seeing i wont have money til december 1st, i tihnk im going to get GH3 on PS2 for which i already have 2 guitars, and then eventually get GH3 on 360 for the downloadable content. Ill probably get this next week, and then the week after that is Assassins creed which i already have fully paid. Then, as soon as i get paid on december, im getting Rock Band and an extra guitar. Good thing im getting a fat paycheck.
Mario Galaxy, Mass Effect, and some others ill get on december and january when i have more cash flow.

Oddly enough, this is the least interesting fall I can remember. Mario Galaxy, Rock Band, and a few others will fill my time soon enough, but I can't really say I'm anything like overloaded. I'd like to go back and do some more with Beautiful Katamari, but the game's end happened way too soon. I'm knee-deep in Puzzle Quest, and with Mutant Storm Reloaded and N+ coming soon have plenty to lookforward to on XBLA, but otherwise it's pretty quiet. It seems like all the big games this year are for people who aren't me.

Yeah, I feel like there are too many games to play. I'm mostly behind because of working too much, but not having a tv to play a lot of my games on definitely isn't helping the situation

Yes Puzzle Quest is yet another game that I am quiet into at the moment and oddly enough its also rekindling my interest to play Oblivion more. Especially since I have the Shivering Isles disc just sitting there waiting to be played! :(
I have a level 36 warrior in that game. What do you have James?

I was really into Puzzle Quest, until I realized that every ability left to gain in the game is lame as fuck. Learning new spells is a pain. I just have no incentive to continue playing, especially since the story seems to have died on me, I'm just grinding, and grinding with long ass puzzles sucks. I'll probably get back into it, but not until after the 1UP Cup.

I want to finish the story and get my character to level 50 after that its just for fun and with friends online a bit. By the time I am done it will ahev been a good ride and a solid purchase.

The higher you get the more detached you become. Some of the spells the enemies cast are pretty cheap IMO.
The -35 hp spell followed by a miss 3 turns spell is a bitch I tell you! :(

It's a good feeling to finally be among the few that have this game. I'm retarded, though. It didn't even occur to me at first that it had strafing or that I could skip the training levels. I'm liking it even more now.
After buying 3 games new games and not playing any of them...no, I don't. I most likely will buy Mario Galaxy and rent COD4 (to make sure it doesn't feel like COD3) and buy that is I like it......that's about it. When does GRAW3 come out? lol

I forget what it is off hand, but it has a level skip code that helps make up for the lack of a save, too.
My gaming schedule really is booked solid. I took some time out to go through Jungle Beat which was a nice distraction, but it really feels like I have one game leading right into another these days. I have a week of down time between Jericho and Crysis though, which I plan to use to play catch up. Maybe Tales of the Abyss finally.

I can't even fathom what its like to play video games for a living. I would imgaine it takes some of the fun out of the experience. Still an enviable job though IMO.

I wouldn't say it takes the fun out of it, but there's an element of work on top of it. That whole "I gotta get it done by this weekend" pressure thing might not be fun, but the game itself is still as fun as it would be anyway. Especially if I get to cover games I'm into anyway (I'm doing Crysis when that drops. Woot!)

Like I said... still an enviable job. I think testing would really suck the life out of you. Reviewing would be the better job fo sho.
Frogacuda
11-02-2007, 02:19 PM
I know people that do testing, and they seem to like it, but you need to put in crazy hours. I don't think I could hack it.
Writing about games beats testing, but testing beats retail. Not sure where development fits in in the pecking order. Depends what level you're at, I guess.
Retail would be awesome in Japan. Dealing with collectors and the like constantly? All of which:
A. Had money.
B. Knew their shit.
C. Respected the REAL classics (Saturn, Neo-Geo, PC-Engine).
In the states... not so much. Especially not at the slave wages Gamestop pays.

Ever see those Famitsu lists of the top 100 games of all time as voted by the readers?
Trust me, Japan has its own equivalent of the Madden crowd.

Exactly. If anything, the average gamer there is worse because they generally ignore Western-developed games entirely whereas Western gamers don’t discriminate as much by place of origin. You will probably find more Saturn and PC Engine fans than here but good luck finding more people that like SMS, Commodore, or Atari stuff.

Just picked up Virtua Fighter 5 Online today. Price matched it at BB against Fry's... used a reward zone cert and ended up walking out with the game for only 47 bucks.
+ 1 to my insanely long list of VERY recent game purchases. While that partially makes me stressed its also exciting in that I have longed to play this series and I am pumped!

I got a Wii on Halloween, so that adds to my list of games to acquire. Thankfully, most of the other games I do want is pretty small, so I'm not too worried. Looking forward to Mario Galaxy the most this year. :)

Too be honest, not really feeling the overload.
I'm hooked on NHL 08 on the 360 right now. It really is all I play.
The only purchases I'm making are Mario Galaxy and maybe Nights.

This week is ridiculous. Crysis, Mario Galaxy, Assassin's Creed (I think), Mass Effect, Contra 4... There's just no way to keep up. I want all of them but I know I can only play maybe 2 games at a time.

I can't take it anymore. I'm scrambling to finish Blue Dragon in time for the Galaxy launch (that's probably not gonna happen). Meanwhile, I'm trying to finish up Luminous Arc so I can complete Trials and Tribulations. Saint's Row, Condemned, Manhunt 2, Yakuza, Killer 7, and Geist are just some of the games in my queue. And I still need to pick up Bioshock, Metriod Prime Corruption, and the PSP remake of FF Tactics. It's absurd. I'm drowning in games.
To top it all off, I have this really bad complex about not touching a game until I finish the one I'm already on. (The Succubus sort of enforces this rule so I don't go spend-crazy every time I hit up Gamestop.) I don't want to get halfway through a game, play something else for a while, and then try to pick it up later. I usually forget the story and lose my flow in general.
This is a nightmare. There needs to be a six-month moratorium on must-have games so I can catch up or something.

Don't worry, after this month the good games are going to be limited to one or so per month, if that.

I just bought Eternal Sonata, and Orange box, still need Blue Dragon, gettin Assasins Creed this week, and started Bioshock last week. Not to mention Two Worlds which I might just give up on. Started playing Phantasy Star as well, not to mention Phantasy Star Universe, and I REALLY need to buy VF5 and get farther in Puzzle Quest, and Mass Effect is next week! AAAAAAAAAAH!!!

Just finished for my first time ever.......... Half Life 2. Good game, but..... I still like Halo better. HL has a better story, but Halo is just more fun to me.
Now I need to finish episode 1 and 2.
But I doubt that will happen soon as I have CoD4 only 1/4 complete and Assasin's Creed and Mass Effect are here..... like NOW! Cwazy I tells you.
Oh and Rock Band too........ CHRIST!
I keep forgetting about Mario Galaxy too..... unless I start craving a platformer I think I'll wait for awhile on Mario.

thing is, im srsly considering not buying many games form here to january, other than rockband and galaxy, and get myself a HD TV for my studio/bar/gameroom ( which, as mondo can tell you, its a fucking awesome place ). something on the range of a 1000 dollars, or if possible, something 1080p capable. or maybe a PS3 to get a bluray... not.
