The really good news:
NES versions of Contra and Super C will be in the game. :wtf:

I'm REALLY looking forward to this game. Love how the villian in this game is Black Viper, the villian from the Gameboy game "Operation C". It also has the two characters from Operation C playable. And it has Probotector as an unlockable character.

Definitely nice to see that justice will be done to the series at long last.

I agree. Looking into my mystic crystal ball, I see my ass being handed to me by aliens many times over in the near future...

I want to be pessimistic about this game because of the dual screen nonsense and handing it off to a Western developer with a hit-or-miss track record, but it really does look much better than it has any right to.

Boo to NES versions though. I know the arcade one is already in Konami Arcade Hits, but that should make it all the easier to include here as well.

I wish it was on a home console though so I could play coop. And from what I played on Xbox Live, the arcade versions suck.

Hmmm, looks pretty nice. Sweet colors and animations. I think the extra height with the 2 screens is a good idea. Sometimes those handheld games restrict the screen so much it makes playing impossible. Knowing where the bullets are coming from is a good thing to me.

My DS has been dying for games. I haven't bought one since april.

I'll definitely be getting this, even if contra 4 is meh, it has the other contra games emulated.

I played this at E for All. It is as fantastic as the pictures and videos make it look -- at least, the first few levels I played were. Believe it or not, they have successfully captured the essence of "Contra", and the dual screen playfield is not awkward at all. If anything, it's like a miniature vertical monitor arcade game in your hands.

I don't like "negative space" in between the screens. They should have made both screens continuous, instead. Also, are the guns really that slow to fire, or does the player simply tap the buttons too slowly in that video?

That being said, I like what I have seen so far. It does feel Contra-ish, without leaning towards the Appaloosa-developed games. (Who in his sane mind would name his game company like a freaking horse breed?)

As far as I remember, the only thing which made firing slow was certain weapons. The Spread Gun was very responsive, but a missile gun I used was sluggish.

I played the arcade games on MAME and they were better than the NES versions

Looks like good stuff to me. I'm not too crazy about the two screen thing myself, it just seems that it may be tough to keep track of all at once. I do like that using both screens lets them make bigger levels with those nice sprites though. I'm officially psyched.

This game is stupid hard.

Still not sure if its a "fair" hard or a "bullshit" hard, but regardless, its a fucking beast.

Complaints:
Can't change controls and the ones provided are kinda awkward.

And... thats all I got right now.

OK, scratch my previous comment on difficulty. This is just one of those, you have to know what weapon suits what situation best and know the levels. If you know that and are a moderately decent run'n'gun player, then I imagine this game would be a walk in the park. Mind you, I'm still learning it, so I'm at level 4, but thats still the halfway point in one night. :p

Also, every level in this game it seems was taken from a previous Contra game. So far anyways. Level 1 is level 1 of Contra. Level 2 is the bastard child of Level 3 of Contra and Level 6 (I think?) of Operation C. Level 3 is level 2 of Contra. Level 4 is level 1 of Operation C.

Its neat, but still kinda like, "Yes... I played the Contra games too... yes, they were cool... "

Gunstar Super Heroes, anyone? I can deal with thematic throwbacks as long as they don't play the same, though.

It is kinda like GSH. Though much better. :p
