View Full Version : Question about Oblivion Main Quest

I beat the main quest tonight. Some really sweet quests towards the end. Final stuff was pretty sweet making up for some lackluster quests earlier in the game. But now Martin is dead and the bloodline is gone. WTF? So the oblivion gates are not sealed forever but Septim bloodline is gone. Why is there no quest to assist in dealing with this issue? It just seems very anticlimactic ,and I all i get is average armor? Why not just make me emperor dammit !

Heh. IIRC the gates were sealed. Mehrunes Dagon can never again cross over. As for the armor yeah, it sucks.
But I agree, being the greatest human being in the universe seems to afford you no privilges of any kind. Sucks.

Yeah, at the very least, you should get some kind of "Adoring Fan" like when you complete all the aren matches.

lmao.
I think the funniest thing is when you finish Shivering Isles. I mean, you become their frikking GOD and yet if you steal something, your personal slave bitch enforcers come to arrest you. They are apologetic, but they're still arresting your ass. :|

In Morrowind, someone made a mod (possibly more then one) that added dialog for the NPC's that acknowledged the player's ranks. e.g. If you were a high enough rank for the Imperial Legion the rank and file soldiers would call you sir. It was a nice touch. I wonder if anyone did that for Oblivion as well. It would be nice to at least be called sir by a few people whose lives I saved.
And Darth, in case you missed it,or maybe I'm remembering wrong
Martin Septim said with Mehrunes Dagon destroyed the gates of Oblivion were shut forever. Maybe Martin isn't in a position to make that call, but that's what I remember from the game.

he did say that. But having a land that has always had the Septim blood running it is a huge deal. What are they going to decide on? I can just imagine some jackass coming to power and be evil as hell. Its like Iraq not having any set leader :p

Shhhhhhhhhh! Or we're going to bring democracy to Cyrodiil next. :scurred:

lmao, I can just see Bush pronouncing war on Cyrodiil.
BTW, Mehrunes Dagon was not killed IIRC, just his "Avatar" in our realm if you will. So he can't come back.

In the Elder Scrolls mythology a daedra prince can't be killed, but he can have his avatar destroyed and be pushed back into his personal plane of Oblivion. I might be getting a little too obscure and dorky for most people here, but what the hell...
The book "Spirit of the Daedra" states:
"We do not die. We do not fear death.
Destroy the Body, and the Animus is cast into The Darkness. But the Animus returns.
But we are not all brave.
We feel pain, and fear it. We feel shame, and fear it. We feel loss, and fear it. We hate the Darkness, and fear it."
So clearly a daedra prince is immortal, or at least they themselves claim so. I can't find anything that says that a daedra can be prevented from returning to Tamriel, though Martin Septim's magic may possess that ability. That's yet to be seen. The daedra feel fear, and pain, and loss, so Mehrunes Dagon is probably fuming over his defeat. I'm sure he'll find a way to get his revenge.
he ending of Olivion leaves a lot of questions for people who follow all the back story to the Elder Scrolls games. You're right about that Darth. I think that was quite intentional, treat, so-to-speak for long time fans to chew on.
For the first time in ages the land of Tamriel has no king, and no Septim family to step to up to the throne. The ending of Olivion leaves a lot of questions for people who follow all the back story to the Elder Scrolls games.
There are still a whole host of other daedra lords who can wreak havoc on the world.
I imagine if the next game follows the main Elder Scrolls plot we'll see a lot of political intrigue. This is a world that has spent a lot of it's life in monarchy, and there's a good chance that the Elder Council might step up and attempt bureaucracy or even real democracy. There's bound to be a bunch of nobility laying claim to the throne, even distant relatives of the Septim line.

interesting info snarf. I admit I did not read though most the books you come across in Oblivion and I have only played through Morrowind some but none of the other games on PC.
I found the stuff in Mankar Camoran's Paradise really interesting. I'm not sure how true most of the stuff he was saying how Daedric are the true gods. I <3 deep mythology in games heh.
Hopefully there is a new elder Scrolls game to address the new changes to the land.

Yeah, I'm an unashamed dork when it comes to the Elder Scrolls games. I actually collect and read all the books in every one of them. I even downloaded the mod for Oblivion thta makes it easier to arrange the books, so I can have nice neat bookshelves full of tomes in my character's houses.
I like that someone actually goes to lengths to provide all this information that only a small number of people may actually find.

I read a bit here and there. Oblivion was my first ES, since I quit Morrowind early on. I guess I was right then. Also, I'm fairly certain they state Mehrunes should no longer be able to enter Tamriel. I could be wrong though, it's been a while. Also, can you refresh on what Mankor Camran said? It sounds vaguely familiar, but I can't recall it all.

I really liked Morrowind, but have had a really hard time getting into Oblivion. I can't even decide on a character since there seems to be an endless amount of possibilities. Hell, I can't even decide on a hairdo, much less actually work on the main quest.

A lot of people feel that way, at least the preferring Morrowind thing. You're not crazy.

I will never be able to agree with that. I wish I could have played through it, but it was such a painful experience. And Im sure the sole reason you preffer Morrowind is because of the level scaling, which just baffles me.

I liked Oblivion a lot more then I liked Morrowind. I just don't like that each Elder Scrolls game gets smaller in physical landmass. That aside I wish Oblivion had more faction quests. There's like the main quest, and then the three guilds, plus the Knights of the Nine in their namesake expansion (Does Shivering isles add a faction?). In morrowind you had the main quest, three guilds, the assassins, your choice of one of three noble houses. It doesn't seem like a lot more, but each faction had a story and sequence of misisons to go through. I miss that.

Um, no.
Morrowind had more area in it. Morrowind had more variation in areas. Morrowind's dungeons weren't seemingly "random", like Oblivion. Morrowind had better creatures. Morrowind had more types of armor. Morrowind had a better main quest. Morrowind had more "factions" you could join. Morrowind had better quests. Morrowind had a better environment. Morrowind had better rules for magick/enchanted items.
Honestly, outside of graphics and combat, there isn't much Oblivion did BETTER than Morrowind.
Of course, I've played through both titles, so I wouldn't expect you to know that.

All I know is that I was REALLY ENGROSSED and/or OBSESSED with Marrowind, but with Oblivion I was kinda....ehhh. I love the graphics though....it's just that I can't seem to make it very far without getting frustrated or tired.
