WASHINGTON - Jesse Lackman says his son spends a dozen hours a week waging medieval combat across the dreary dreamscapes of computer games. Just don't expect to find Lackman sitting beside him battling ogres and dragons.

"It's just such a waste of time," said Lackman, 47, a power plant operator from Center, N.D. "I tell him, 'Do something that has some lasting value.'"

Me and my dad used to play Rambo/Ashura/Secret Commando together. Normally, it was good times, but every once in awhile, he'd accidentally bowsplode me and then I'd get revenge many times over. We actually beat it together a few times.
I get really agitated with parents who talk about games like they're destructive and a complete waste of time. What's so destructive? Why is it so different than any other activity, physical or not? It's a good time and it makes your kid happy. Stop being a bunch of fucking idiots and let the kids play.
Anyway, it's great for hand-eye coordination.

same :D I use to play sport games with my dad. Also racing games.
My Dad played games a good bit. He played through Final Fantasy IV and VI. He also played Mario Kart on the SNES with me A LOT! Sometimes, if I was grounded and Mom wasn't home, he'd let me play that so we could play against each other.
Then he started playing some Civil War strategy game on the PC. Then I introduced him to Total Annihilation and that is all he's played since. Well, he played the Atari Jaguar a lot... and I think to this day thats his favorite system ever, go fig.

My grandfather and my (then) uncle actually got me into games. I didn't play sop much with my parents, but when I lived with my dad at his parents' place I played all the time with my grand father. I was actually discouraged from playing alone, I was allowed (provided what little responsibility a 6 year old has was taken care of), but my grandparents felt that gaming should be more of a social activity. Kind of a cool environment to develop my interest in games.
