Well, my Elite console stopped reading discs last month. I was devastated because I never really had a console just up and stop working before.

I went through the MS repair route, they sent the box and I sent it back with my console inside. This past Monday, I got it back.

I was so excited to see it on the counter when I came home from work! I took it downstairs and popped it open...only to find a new console sitting there with a note saying "Please accept this replacement console etc." I was a bit upset because all my downloaded content wouldn't register unless I was online, which isn't always an opportunity for me. But at least I got a working console, and immediately hooked it up.

I turn it on...and it freezes on the start up screen. The X-ball stuck there in mid turn. Shocked, I turned it off and tried again, same results; only this time I nearly got to the dashboard. I went and followed the steps for Freezing Screen on Xbox.com (article is here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907586/ ) and still the same results.

I called MS again, and they said they would send another repair box. What did I do wrong to make this thing freeze??? For that matter, why did my first Elite decide to stop reading discs? The timing of all this is just horrible.

Man, that sucks. The true defect rate on these things must be ridiculous. I just know way too many people who are having problems with the 360. How long have you been 360-less now?

From 10/24 to Now. :(
I did squeeze in a game of NBA2K8 on the day I received it, but that conked out soon after loading. In fact, check my xbox profile, somehow I played Viva Pinata afterwards, but the date is 9/1/2007 :p

I will admit, I've been having a blast with the ol' faithful consoles, such as this beautiful little white box with the orange light. But I've been wanting to play the new stuff out now, like Mass Effect or something. :(

EDIT: In fact, all the dates are messed up on that page.

Yeah, my DC conked out on me. My Xbox is still running but with disc read errors every now and then. My 360 died a few months ago, and it looks like my current one is about to die on me again, since I've been getting quite a few dirty disc errors lately.

PoS 360's. I am positive the 360 I'm on will crap out eventually.

360 - replaced twice in a one year periodI went through 5 DCs, I think. Everything else has held up.

Oh I went through a Lynx that got thrown against the wall, but that's not really the manufacturer's fault.

My original xbox HDD bombed out and my original 360 had all kinds of glitchiness going on, so I sent it in. New one freezes up a lot, too.

Genesis, SMS, Saturn, Playstation, Dreamcast and Playstation 2 have all worked fine.

I had to trade in my launch day Xbox (had the warranty from EB) due to problems when Live started. It would freeze up and boot me out of games (pretty much on Ghost Recon). Other than that the Xbox was great.

I had my 360 for about a year and 8 months before I had the red ring of death. I think the replacement they sent me (refurb) will crap out eventually. I love the system and the games (and Live), but they really are not made all that well. Too bad.

Pretty much all of my other consoles worked great until I traded or sold them.

That sucks Shinobi. :(
