SF2:HD beta available

If you buy Commando 3 on XBLA, it comes with the SF2:HD beta that only includes Ken and Ryu. Complete with Ken's, uh, special shoryuken.

I will be buying it tonight when I get home.

Now that I have the game running on my own tv I can honestly say ... it looks pretty bad. It really does.

You know those online flash remakes of classic games? Like a super high res, "updated" Pac-Man, but it just doesn't look right? It has this cheesy vibe to it? That's what SF2:HD has. I honestly feel like I'm playing some flash version of SF that some online game site made.

I've not been able to play online, everytime I go to join a game my Xbox completely freezes and has to be hard rebooted. So far SF2:HD isn't impressing me :(

Hmmm. I'll need a new d-pad before I but this for the 360.

Edit: Me and Shinbiwan had that same discussion about the fear of all hi res 2D games coming off like a flash game. Sad to hear you say that's how this looks.

No!!! If I use a regular dpad I can connect to games. If I use my new stick it freezes :( :( :(

Ok, if I join a room with regular controller then switch to stick it works. A pain, but when you first join you are a spectator almost always so not a big deal.

It plays quite well online, best online fighter I've played I think. It's also nice to be able to watch the other matches.

I wonder when is the full version supposed to be available. Clearly they're working on their networking code at the moment... it can't be too far off

I've now played about 10 games or so. It plays online really well! It's actually quite awesome.

The people who have the beta are pretty much all from shoryuken.com :) so everyone is pretty good. Good times.

I'm playing against spider-dan and jumpsuit jesse. They are also very good (JSJ is a well known ST player).

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one playing this, but just incase: if you do custom match search then jump into a specific room it almost always freezes. But if you just do quick match it very rarely freezes.

Oh and if you turn it onto HD display, so it takes up the width of your TV and zooms in on the characters, the graphics look much better.

I met one of the developers on this at a Seattle SF tournament last night. He really knew his shit at ST (and MvC2) and he said most of the dev team were good players. He said they are well aware of Ken (and to omg stop asking him about it!) and that it's going to be all good in the end.

So yeah, I think this will be a good game.

High def mode is the way to go - and yes, I'd be interested in playing anyone. As for the game, Sirlin recruited a lot of players from the SRK/Evolution scene who are high-level players. This was a key factor in helping to rebalance the game and add some new "toys" that were not introduced in the original version. In short, folks shouldn't be awfully quick to judge the game now when it's an unfinished product. "All good in the end" is the best way to put things!

You know I saw that as I recently DL'd commando 3 but I never new when it started or if the beta had already ended. I will DL the beta and try it tonight! :)
