Yup, I'm just going to make list threads until the boards go nuts with posting or something.
Anyways, by next-gen, I mean the consoles (Xbox360, Wii, and the other one) and the PC stuff. No handhelds.
Anywho, mine would be as follows:
10. No More Heroes (Wii) - Vulgar. Violent. Funny. And totally awesome. No More Heroes is one of the few Wii games I had a blast with, and it not only rocked because of the violence and crudeness, and it really had some solid gameplay that made for some awesome light saber duels. Good stuff Grasshopper!
09. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - In my opinion, the absolute best 3D Mario game as well as the best 3D platformer ever. It was pretty easy overall, but some of the extra stuff added that little bit of hardcore platforming needed for fools like me. Its also the best looking Wii game I've ever seen and the music was just great.
08. Crackdown (XB360) - Its GTA only minus the mundaneness of... GTA. Few things can compete with searching the city over for agility orbs, leaping from rooftop to rooftop, and those epic "Shaigen" bosses that live in towers that make you want to play "Real Folk Blues" while going up them towards your showdown.
07. Excite Truck (Wii) - My favorite game on the Wii. Easily. I loves it. Its so much fun. If Sega didn't suck now, this is the type of thing I like to think they'd make.
06. Earth Defense Force 2017 (XB360) - This would proabably be waaaaay up on the list if it had online co-op. As is, it does not. But thats OK, its still the best co-op experience on the 360 in my opinion. Pure arcade style fighting hundreds of enemies arcadey shooting fun.
05. Gears of War (XB360)- What can I say? It mainstreamed a "duck and cover" technique that everybody and their mama is now copying (yes yes Frog, I know killswitch did it first). Regardless, its still one of the best looking games in existence, online co-op is awesome, and the multiplayer had me hooked for weeks!
04. Blue Dragon (XB360, Hard Mode) - Just the clarify, Hard Mode is the only real mode in Blue Dragon. Without it, the game kinda falls apart since you'll get caught up in grinding but find you're ridiculously overpowered. But with Hard Mode, its almost as difficult and requiring of strategy as Lost Odyssey. But for seriously, I just love the world they made for BD. I love the music. I love the "fight circle" idea they had. I love the ending. Its just a great game to me.
03. Halo 3 (XB360) - Of course Halo 3 is on here. Its Halo 3. God knows how much time I've put into it online shooting the shit out of fools (and that amount of time pales in comparison to most!). But my main love for Halo 3 comes from the campaign truthfully. Its intense, the AI is REALLY advanced, and overall its just a great ride. It has its downsides (the flood...), but other moments (SCARABS!) more than make up for it.
02. Ninja Gaiden 2 (XB360) - The best action game ever made in my opinion. Yes, the violence is totally awesome, but the gameplay is just incredible. I love it! I can't quit playing it. Right now I have two saves, one for Mentor Difficulty and the other where I'm playing through just using the claws. This is one of the few times where you feel like a total badass in a videogame, and you're doing more than just mashing on one button. And the boss fights are top notch. In my opinion, this game far outdoes the original, and is the best thing Itagaki has ever done in his life.
01. Lost Odyssey (XB360) - No game has writing that can compare. The music is second to nothing found in this generation. The voice acting is some of the best in a JRPG (or hell, even most anime I'm sure), and the characters are just incredibly well done. The combat demands you use strategy and strips away various bullshit mainstays of JRPGs past (forced level-grinding, buying better armor that the town you just walked in just HAPPENS to have), some of the dungeons have fairly well done puzzles, and all in all, its just the best "classic style" JRPG since Final Fantasy VI ("classic style" mentioned because nothing in existence, now or in the future, will ever top PDSaga). Lost Odyssey took me back to when I was a kid and loved JRPGs, and its one of the few that I is as good to me as the ones I played back in the day. I loves it. Especially the ending. And the dream sequences. Only videogame I can think of where the actual writing brought a tear to my eye multiple times.
And... thats it. Um, post yours now... or something...
