Looks like Squeenix has decided to remake Chrono Trigger for the DS (that, or make a sequel, but chances are its a remake, I mean, it is Squeenix!).

I love buying the same games over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over in the same decade!!!!! Its great that the gaming industry is so full of original ideas!!! w00t!!!!

Though in all honesty, with Sakaguchi gone Square has no more talent and is no longer able to create good games. Ergo, I guess remaking all the stuff he made is for the best.

I'd rather Squeenix sell the rights to Chrono Trigger to someone who could do something with it: Mistwalker.

Seriously, let Mistwalker/Artoon remake Chrono Trigger to look like Blue Dragon. That would be fecking awesome.

Though this thread has made me think of something:

In Japan, it seems the big developers have run out of ideas, and are either going on a retro kick or remaking/porting everything they can think of. Whereas in the west we're actually seeing neat new ideas and new games coming out that are defining this generation of consoles.

So like, in 10 years, are we going to see a Halo remake? A Bioshock remake? An Oblivion remake?

Or will the western devs avoid the black hole of ideas that seems to have struck Japan?

Haha, I'm not trying to depress you or anything. Hell, I'm even a little bit excited about this because, I too, loved Chrono Trigger.

Like I said above, Squeenix can't make good games anymore. Its probably best that they just sit around a remake the good stuff these days.

OK, The World Ends With You was pretty neat and original. I'll give them that.

I'd like them to make online RPG's where the bosses are other players. You might luck out and fight someone who sucks at RPG's, but you might go up against someone who kicks all kinds of ass. Kind of like battle card games, but you get to be an obstacle to someone's campaign experience.

Thats what I was wondering when he first brought it up.

"I will select the commands for Magus!"
"Not if I make you Marle!!!!"
"ARGH! Switch the party around!"
"NO! I'm playing as Magus. And no, you can't be Crono!"

I remember when my roomate and some of us were playing Tales of Symphonia. It was neat, but it got boring just watching him walk around doing everything. And he always decided who got new gear and what not. Actually, he pissed off this one chic so bad doing that that she outright quit playing.

the real question is do I have a SNES?

Answer ... NO. It is right now in a box somewhere in Smithville, NJ, in an attic of a condo I lived at like 2 years ago. In that box is a Genesis, SNES, Saturn, Sega Master system, PS1, and a TG16.

Funny thing ... I have the games right here at my apartment ... except for the TG16. And I am missing some games as well, why? They are in the systems.

But Chrono Trigger ... no I don't have it. I think I traded it in when I got a PS1 (day one release).

Ah well.
why that's like if they re-released Panzer Dragoon Orta and you found out that they re-did the graphics to cel shaded and the cinemas are now being done by Hideo Kojima.

No.

keep it the way it is.

We don't need to always redo graphics to make a game enjoyable. Its going on a god damn DS. Not a freaking 360 or PS(LOL)3 and 1/3.

No. Keep the graphics damn it.

jp
07-06-2008, 11:42 PM
To an extent I can relate Mr. Stretch-the-screen-to-annoying-levels(which I just fixed because reading anything on this page was annoying as hell), but on the other hand, I'm kind of annoyed.

For instance:
Using PDOrta as an example for me doesn't work, because PDOrta isn't PD canon and ruined the original trilogy's plot (and had some really lukewarm gameplay, ick!)

But if we were talking about PDSaga, then I would sympathize. Primarily, because the look and atmosphere PDSaga had as a 32-bit game worked very well and it would undoubtedly lose some of its magic if its graphics were redone.

Of course, I would find it horribly lame of Sega to port/remake PDSaga PERIOD. In fact, I find all of Sega's porting/remaking to be an abomination and I really wish they would just go out of business. But thats another story.

Anywho, the reason I'm slightly annoyed is because, well, if you're going to trick me into buying the same game over and over and over and over again, at least TRY to trick me. At least give me some imaginary reason to buy it again. I can play Chrono Trigger on the SNES. I can play Chrono Trigger on the DS with an emulator. So give me a reason to give you money for me to play Chrono Trigger on the DS, ya know? I mean, yes, its Chrono Trigger on the go, but honestly I never felt the need to play Chrono Trigger (or any FF) on the go.

I dunno, its cool, and at the same time its lame.

And I'm not even asking for a graphical overhaul. Just... just a little bit of touching up. Keep 'em 2D, keep the same style, but just make it look a little bit prettier.

YEAH! I AGREE WITH

I mean *ahem* I agree with Advocate. Please don't touch the graphics. I really love it when a game pushes its gen's hardware to the max. There's something "complete" about it, and CT does that in spades.

Same with CT, except 16bit. CT in any other style than SNES pushed to the max would suck.

I don't know about all that. There's parts of the sprite art in CT that could be a lot better, and there are much better looking SNES RPGs like Star Ocean and Seiken Densetsu 2. CT has some very nice art direction, but it was hardly graphical perfection for the SNES.

Then again i only played a friend's copy and didn't get very far, and i hadn't played too many rpgs at that time except for both Lunars and Final Fantasy 3, all of which i loved.
