Commando 3 (XBLA)

So I finally played this last night (I bought it just for the SF2:HD beta that comes with it). It's not bad, not bad at all. It's pretty much identical to Shocktroopers but with a Robotron input scheme, so if you like that you'll like this.

Good graphics, decent level design, good controls. I will probably keep playing it. It's shmuppy enough for shmup fans to give it a shot.

Gripes: you often have to shoot down walls/spawn buildings/vehicles/etc, but if you are pressed up against them you don't fire. Seems like a bug to me. Also throwing a grenade means being a complete sitting duck for about 3 seconds, so they are very rarely a good idea.

I also have the game and think its good blasting fun. The game is freaking insanely loud though. I thought Heavy Metal was pretty loud but give this one a go and be prepared for 11 on the volume scale. Turn down your system before playing..... trust me. Also I definitely see the draw that schmup fans like JP might have for the game.

The game is a lot easier with the middle dude, got all the way to the end with him whereas I couldn't get to the boss of level 2 with the chick.

From level 3 on there are these tanks where if you don't have a bomb or the rocket launcher, you will lose almost all your life and it's completely unavoidable (maybe the chick could run away fast enough). Even worse, the rocket launcher sucks against soldiers.

There is no time penalty and enemies spawn indefinitely. There are places you can hang out and just rack up massive points (or if nothing else, rebuild your 24x multiplier for free), so playing this game for score is kinda broken.

JP u still read comics? I haven't bought a new comic since 97. Outside of a few older graphic novels over the past few years.

This game is officially very easy on default difficulty. I just beat it without dying and I'm #35 on the leaderboard.

I think I'm just gonna get all the achievements and move on, not a very deep game. But worth the $10, it's been a good lil excursion.
