While we saw it hinted at in patents (http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/10/blazepro-ships-wii-classic-controller-nintendo-hints-at-first-p/), Nintendo is springing quite the doozy on us at E3 in the form of its new Wii MotionPlus add-on. Perhaps in a preemptive strike against supposed Wiimote competition from the likes of Microsoft (http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/07/microsoft-working-on-360-wiimote-killer/) and Sony (http://www.engadget.com/2008/06/13/sonys-wiimote-competitor-to-come-as-break-apart-dualshock-3/), Nintendo is beefing up its motion support with this add-on, which is supposed to proved "an unmatched level of precision and immersion," with sensors to supplement the accelerometer and sensor bar to provide 1:1 motion -- as in, I move my arm this much, my character moves his arm that much. So far that's all we know about the unit, Nintendo will be detailing more at its E3 media briefing tomorrow

Nice to hear about 1:1. this should help take some games to the next level. The star wars game comes to my mind for some reason...

hopefully we will finally get some wii SPORTS games with real players that are as good as the actual games in Wii Sports.

Great, now we have to pay another 30 dollars or so for something that should have been done from the beginning.

Fuck Nintendo. Twice.

that's enough alone to get me to grab that....but I'll need 4 of them :( That's going to suck.

Too bad the Lightsaber Dueling game comes out before this attachment does. Thanks a lot Nintendo, you could have at least given Lucasarts the heads up.

LOL!

I can see these selling out in stores and going for $50-60+ on craigslist and ebay. Make your wii "better"...and everyone will fight over them. I remember how hard it was to find regular controllers for the first year.

Nintendo are dicks for not letting third parties have access to this sooner. I talked to a lot of angry developers with games coming out this fall that won't be able to support this because they were kept out of the loop.

Oh, but Frog, they couldn't possibly let someone release something that utilizes their new breakthrough before they do!

it wasn't even a big enough announcement to warrant keeping the 3rd parties out of the loop.

Apparently Nintendo failed to notify third parties about this beforehand. :|

We weren't terribly impressed (http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/16/nintendo-motionplus-hands-on-blah/) with Nintendo's recently unveiled MotionPlus add-on, but we're even more disappointed by this. Reportedly, scads of third-party developers revealed at E3 that the Big N's latest Wiimote accessory was just as much a surprise to them as it was to any of us. In other words, Nintendo didn't bother giving its external devs any advance notice in order to get the ball rolling on compatible titles, or so it seems. Unfortunately, this also means that we probably won't see any MotionPlus-ready games hitting shelves from anyone not named Nintendo for months to come, but it's not like Wii Sports Resort can't hold our attention for a solid year, right

Well isn't that just peachy. Though since we won't be seeing the accessory until 09 anyway, I guess that gives the devs enough time to work on it...?

That's just as bad as when Sega launched the Saturn five months in advance. LOL@ Sony and Nintendo. If it weren't for their portable systems, I guess they'd be in a heap of trouble.

Well Nintendo is making a killing off of Wii, so even without DS they'd be doing awesome.
