Sony conference = pretty good. Nice announcements (even though most were expected like God of War 3 and the video store). I still think Microsoft edged out the top spot here with their slew of new features and crazy online co-op announcements.

FFXIII is big news. but the fact is that while it hurts Sony, what MS is not doing is hurting them even more.

MS comes and shows the Netflix thing, and Sony shows an even better thing, which is available much sooner, and that even lets you to take things with you via PSP. That was huge, but no ones talking about it.

Then Sony basically did the same thing as MS: Show great games, most of them already announced, looked spectacular, but i never thought this would be important here, because, since its sony and a console almost no one here owns, they dont care about the games, which is sad. However you cant downplay the fact that God of War is possibly the biggest game announced on E3, even if it was a minor trailer, because its a game with a huge userbase coming from the console that won last gen: the PS2. which means a crapload of people care, even if sestren doesnt.

Then we have GT TV. this, along with the FFXIII analysis got lost in a sea of spam, but here it goes again. MS isnt doing anything really meaningful to take share away from sony and wii in japan or europe. The FFXIII announcement is lost in japan, coz it wont be available there (and it wouldve been huge image wise to see it available on the competition along with mistwalkers stuff), and while it steals thunder from Sony, its not as big as if it was a timed exclusive, or simply exclusive.

Meanwhile, in Europe, GT5 is coming, and when it does, it will be unstoppable. not only because of what it represents, but because MS isnt doing anything to shake things and compete. A new forza, some innovative new game, a F1 or Rally license, anything, but no. They show a bunch of games that are copies of sonys established quirky franchises like singstar and eyetoy that dont bring nothing new to the table, and dont even have a recognized brand name, while GT gets even moooooooore amazing features with GT TV (which is a huge announcement by itself ). With the bad rep theyre getting for their console, which hardware failures are becoming more and more difficult to hide, and Sony catching up, what is MS doing thats significantly going to broaden their userbase?! Thats my question. The games are there, theyve been almost since the start of its life, but it doesnt seem enough right now.

I don't see how the PS3 Ditigal content is bigger than the 360 one? MS has partnerships with tons of major studios and TV stations. They have INSANE amounts of content already and just added a LOT more. Once you add Netflix to that, their library will be massive. I don't see the existing content on PS3 being close to that of 360, and once you factor in Netflix, it's a complete blowout.


As for europe, I really don't care about europe, but even if GT will be a system seller there, I dont see GTTV having a big impact. Everything I've heard is that the musical push is tailored for the europeans since that seems to be big over there. It's certainly not going to hurt GT, but I don't see that anything they did could have.

Dont forget Sony is a major studio by itself, and in the end, their entertainment content can be quickly built up. and their rental service will be up before. It will take some time to be at the same level of MS, but they know its a weakness, and they are taking steps, big ones IMO, towards decreasing the gap.

I understand that. But thats a lot of speculation. MS marketplace is a reality, ALL of that content is there, RIGHT now. From virtually all of the major studios. Maybe over time Sony will catch up, but when they do, BAM, Netflix, and the bar just moved out another thousand feet.

I just snagged a couple movies from the Sony store that aren't available on the Xbox store... a ton of these movies (and TV shows) are mirrored on both services. Some are exclusives one way or the other... I don't think either has a one up over the other in terms of movies. The 360 Video Marketplace, however, completely destroys the Sony Video Store in terms of TV shows. I know that Sony will get more content for the TV shows later and they did a great job matching Microsoft with the Movies (though the lack of previews sucks), but there you have it. It's not 1 upping anyone, it's matching.
