Basically, Activision is the dominant party in the merger, and so their suits are arrogant and second guessing everything Vivendi did. They have cancelled all of Vivendi's games except Crash, Spyro, and Ice Age, because apparently Activision is only interested in running series into the ground and those licenses are already nicely broken in in that regard.

So we lose Brutal Legend, Ghostbusters, Leisure Suit Larry, World in Conflict, Chronicles of Riddick and more. Some guarunteed money-makers in there, but apparently Crash is where the money is at... Idiots.

Apparently Double Fine knew this was coming and have been shopping around for a new publisher for a while now. Some of these properties will probably be sold, but Ghostbusters comes with an expensive license and Larry is a sierra property so those worry me the most.

Good maybe those properties will go to a good distributor.

There are now words to express the rage I am feeling right now. I want to kill someone.

Why would they cancel Riddick and Ghostbusters? Even if they sucked, they would make a great deal of money.

I wouldn't worry about games like Brutal Legend making it out... we'll still get it. Who knows why Activision saw it unfit to publish, though.

If I don't get Brutal Legend, someone at Activision dies. Aside from Fable 2 that's my most anticipated game.

Activision is the new EA.

Too bad they have WoW to fill their pockets... :frown:

Activision is the new EA.
This is correct. They're just buying out and then treating their acquired property like worthless. Very much like EA. Not that Vivendi hadn't comitted some crimes of their own, but it doesn't make this decision any better.

Interestingly enough, as I mentioned, EA seems to be done being EA, at least for now. They're actually giving their studios creative freedom, producing high quality original IPs, and backing quality independent games. I don't know if I'm ready to forgive them for their past crimes, but I actually like the new EA, and that's a very unsettling feeling.

As long as EA doesn't ruin Mass Effect, I can live with them. But I will never forgive Activision for this.

That would be a real shame if we never get to see the Ghostbusters game. It did look pretty cool. :( Even if it was not all that good, it would have been fun to play as and hear the voices of the original 4 Ghostbusters.

Holy crap, Ghostbusters is cancelled for real? The Wii version had a huge article in the NP that just came out a few days ago. Dan Aykroyd had a big interview in it, and was really excited about the game. They were basically done with it, just debugging it. What the fuck? :frown:

My feelings exactly. Those two games should not have been dropped. Any self respecting gamer has got to see an angle to why those two titles should get their day in the sun. :(

What is it with game companies having soem of the most retarded decision makers of any other business? It just boggles my mind sometimes.

Oh it's not just game companies. Look at the great filmmakers that can't get movies produced because they need to remake Mrs Doubtfire or some shit.

All these people here is proven sales track record. They have no ability to discern quality or actually take a chance that something will resonate with the public.

Tim Schafer posted a hidden message on Double Fine's site stating "Brutal Legend is fine," so I guess they have a new publisher lined up. Thank god.
