UK, February 4, 2009 - EA's John Riccitiello has spoken of how the publisher is to place half of its emphasis on the Wii, as it looks to 'rival Nintendo on their own platform'.
"Nintendo is the leader; they're getting half our emphasis in terms of title counts," said Riccitiello in the company's Q3 earning call, picked up by videogaming24/7, confirming that the hugely successful console will be a key platform for EA.
A Wii version of the space-bound survival horror Dead Space, announced in the same call, appears to be one of the first signs of this new focus.
This is sad if true, EA makes some great games and I would hate for less then half of them to be on current gen systems, plus all of their current gen games are on both the 360 and PS3, so that cuts the number down even more.

I kid. :p

I think it's a mistake. A lot of that popularity is from people who don't really play these kinds of games. A game like Dead Space probably won't be as appealing to the 500 billion who bought the Wii for WiiFit and WiiSports.
How well did RE4 sell on the Wii? I guess that would be a good indicator.

1.6 million copies. A huge success for a several year old port that had already been on 2 different consoles.

Well then.....maybe EA's move will payoff, but I definitely won't contribute to that old ass tech unless the games are somehow mind-blowingly great and don't rely on gimmicky controls to get them through.

I don't think it's a smart move in general. Especially since EA hasn't been able to do much with the Japanese market which is a huge one of Wii.

This is a match made in heaven. Let the company who is known for making a lot of crap (and a few gems) put most of their emphasis on the crap system.
They are both seas of crap with a few gems and it just seems to good to be true IMO.

This is just natural, as it is so easy to have a million seller on the wii. A lot of crappy games are hitting huge numbers. It's sad that the wii version of RE4 most likely outsold the gamecube and PS2 versions combined.

"Yippee, let's sell lots of sports games with crappy controls and on top of that we can now make games with crappy graphics and nobody will know the difference."
"We'll be rich, rich I tell you."
Too bad that once EA realizes that only their sports games are selling they will stop making games like Mirror's Edge and Dead Space. :flat:

The thing is though that if you wanna do a current high end game..... you really can only do it on the 360 or PS3.... then you see how hard it would be to do on the PS3 and you settle on the 360.
It will be the system of choice long term from a business perspective for these types of games. But if your game sucks.... just sprinkle some waggle wand magic on it and all wll be good. No one will notice it plays like shit or that it looks like a turd.... thats just how Wii games are supposed to be....... uuuggghhhhh.
