It seemed like one of those fan questions that Joshua Ortega, the writer of Gears of War 2, would dance around during tonight's New York Comic-Con Gears of War panel -- were there plans for doing a prequel that dealt with the events of E-Day, the day the Locust emerged and attacked the human race?

"You will not be disappointed in the next ten years," Ortega said. "It's a ten-year plan. Gears is long-term. The lancer is the new lightsaber."

Another question that got the crowd going: are there plans for more single-player Gears of War 2 DLC?

"Keep watching," Ortega said. "You won't be disappointed."

Interesting. I am right at the end of Ashpo Fields and I would love to see a game based around some of the events from it. I wonder when MS plans to lock up Gears for more exclusivity, since originally it was only the first 2 games.

There's a 10 year plan for Gears? I thought we were already told it's a trilogy. Even if they add in a prequel, that's only 2 more games left... not 10 years worth of material, imo. Maybe he's talking about 10 years from the first one? Also, do you think we'd be playing as Marcus, or would they take the Halo route, and have us play as some other human/not-so-elite-fighter?

I guess a prequel would be cool, but only after they give us the next Gears. I want to know the ending of the 3rd game, first.

A 10 year plan?

Ha, for some reason that made me think back to that Adam Sandler movie "Big Daddy".
