Sega announced rather quietly at Tokyo Game Show that Phantasy Star Portable will be coming to North America. The Phantasy Star Online-style action RPG will hit these shores in March of next year, with Sega likely hoping it will match the success it has had with the game in Japan. Phantasy Star Portable has sold well over 600,000 copies on its home turf, in some part riding on the success of Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G.
While Phantasy Star Portable features wireless multiplayer of the local "ad hoc" style, it may be taking advantage of upcoming PlayStation 3 functionality that simulates infrastructure connections. That means online monster hunting with primary colors and futuristic laser swords, the kind of stuff that can make us momentarily pause our Phantasy Star V daydreaming.

lol, the PSP is worth owning for the emulation alone, anyone who thinks otherwise is nuts. if only I didn't waste the money on a DS...

I love my DS, im happy with that.
PSP for PSP, is for the most part a port of PSU, with a parallel story and added weapons. However, SEGA has already announced they are releasing most of the extra PSP content on PSU next month in Japan. We will likely get it here later this year. So it would be rather pointless to buy a PSP for this.
On the other hand, SEGA is releasing a brand new entry in the PSO series for DS, called Phantasy Star Zero. Definitely looking forward to that.

PSP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DS
Maybe in imagination land where a console's merits are based not on its games, but on how many apps are on it.
And in that case, the GP2X is the single greatest handheld ever made and the discussion is over.

PSP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DS
The Ace Attorney series alone puts the DS 10 levels above the PSP. :)

The PSP owns the DS, there is no question. Actually, the PSP is the best handheld since the original gameboy. Only haters think otherwise.

I cant stand the controls on the DS. I tried to play NG:DS and MP:H back in the day and they both control horribly. On top of that the graphics on DS are terrible. Add in all the awesome apps on PSP and it wins in a landslide. Plus it has real console games on it.

I love my DS. I've played more games on it than any other handheld. I didn't like the PSP. It's too thick, and I hate the controls, especially that dumbass stick. lol

I must reiterate. The DS will continue to be superior to the PSP as long as it has the Ace Attorney series.

Even titles like Lost Odyssey and Bioshock were pushed to the side when I had a Phoenix Wright title in my hands. And now i'll never be able to get back into those titles again. :(

1. Not every game on the DS requires the touch screen use. Hell, virtually none of the games I love on it use it much.
2. Graphics != a good game.
3. Apps are impressive for palmpilots and cellphones, not for videogame systems.

I'm working on Retro Game Challenge and then moving on to Dragon Quest 5.
Both of these are on DS.
Also isn't the DS getting Phantasy Star Zero?

Personally, I like the PSP a million times more than the DS, but it has nothing to do with the homebrew bullshit that's killing the industry. Certain homebrew I think is awesome like XBMC, but the game piracy is fucked up (unless it's an out of print title).
I agree with Yankee that the controls on the DS aren't very good. I have both the original DS and the lite and they both make my hands hurt by having to hold the stupid rectangle in an ackward position. The PSP fits in your hand almost perfectly. I'm not a HUGE portable game player, but the only titles on the DS I really enjoy playing are Mega Man titles, Mario Kart, and re-released games (like Mario 64 and UMK3).
For the PSP? It has Lumines (better than Meteos and other puzzle games on DS), Mega Man Powered Up (is better than ANY Mega Man game on the DS), Killzone Liberation, Field Commander (better than Advanced Wars on DS), Ratchet & Clank, etc. etc. etc. Most of the hardcore gamers I know of that hate on the PSP don't really ever give it a shot. Casual gamers I understand liking the DS more. I don't think you can find Puppy Petting or How To Cook on the PSP.

 Yeah that shit is a joke.
I had both for a short time and I hated the touch screen controls on the DS. I think they are both good handhelds, but neither of them were worth keeping for me. I like the PSP slighlty better for gaming, but playing any type of FPS or Third person shooter is terrible. I am not a portable gamer type so I would hardly ever sit home and play on a handheld. I have too many consoles game to play as it is. I will say that if I start taking the train again I will get a handheld just to pass the time.
XBMC is one of the greatest things ever made. I don't use it anywhere near it's fullest, but my friend does. He does some real cool stuff with his Xbox and I don't even think he uses it for burning games at all, probably just for emulators of older (as in out of production) consoles. SNES, NES, Genesis, older arcade games and stuff like that.

I love XBMC also. Last night I was trying to get an NES emmu to work on it. Grrr at FCEUltra not having any directions!

What's the best PSP game to date? Were Castlevania and Ghosts 'n Goblins any good?

Dracula X is the best PSP game so far IMO. KZ Liberation is great also, there are a ton of puzzle games if you like games like that, Super Stardust Portable is fantastic as is Everyday Shooter. The new Resistance game is going to be great judging off the demo. The PSP version of Force Unleahsed has a ton of content not in the console versions. Seriously the PSP has an amazing lineup and a ton of big releases set for this year.
