Re: Remedy celebrates completed Alan Wake with new trailer, party
I had a lot of stuff at the end of edpisode 1 but in 2 they take it all away. I have searched very thoroughly and only found a shotgun, no flares, no flashbangs. I will give it another go here soon.

Re: Remedy celebrates completed Alan Wake with new trailer, party
You know about the secret stashes right. Pay attention for the arrows that are lit up by the flashlight and follow them. They usually contain flares/flare guns/flashbangs.
One thing I wanted to ask jp. He mentioned the story was more Stephen King than Lovecraft. I don't read King, so I don't know what the distinction there is. There are various mentions of both Lovecraft and King during the game, and the dark force is refered to as being Lovecraftian, and I can definitely see the parallels there. I've been reading quite a bit of lovecraft lately. But since I have very limited experience with King, I was wondering what you felt made it lean on way as opposed to the other.

I know about those stashes. I picked up the shotgun early, but like I said... no flares... no flash bangs. I must be missing them though. I shall try again!

Wow, crazy. I almost never ran out of flares. There were craploads. Keep an eye on the ground too. There are often flares just laying around on the ground.

Re: Remedy celebrates completed Alan Wake with new trailer, party
I didn't get any flares until episode 3 or 4. The first flare I got was part of the story where they force you to use it. I don't think you missed it Newport.

I had flares in episode one though. In 2 I don't seem to have any. I believe I am playing on normal.

Re: Remedy celebrates completed Alan Wake with new trailer, party
I'm pretty sure you can get flares and flare guns pretty early. Maybe I'm just misremembering, but I'm certain that they show up in the secret stashes at the very least. I think flashbangs don't show up at all until episode 3 or 4.

I found all but four of the secret stashes. The flares in the stashes definitely didn't show up in the first two episodes (of the ones I found).
Flare guns, on the other hand, were all over.

Spoiler:
In Lovecraft's works, something really bad generally happens at the end, usually somebody dies or is driven mad. Rarely is the "darkness" overcome. In Stephen King, you usually wind up with stuff like "the spirit of the child overcomes the darkness" or, at least, good winning in some form or fashion (a few exceptions though).
So basically, by taking the light imbued with the magic of a childhood memory (albeit possibly artificial), Wake overcame the darkness. This would not happen in a Lovecraftian tale.

The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved."

I see. However, that's not necessarily a rule. I mean, there are Lovecraft stories where Spoiler: the "good guys" win at the end. Although, they are the exception. Still, I think it's arguable whether Spoiler: Wake actually wins. I'm fairly certain he didn't defeate the darkness. He's trapped in the cabin now. I suppose you could say that freeing Alice is enough to constitute a "win". And the fact that he was able to hurt and defeat the darkness is arguably not very lovecraftian. Still, I feel Jagger was more one possible incarnation, and while he was able to slow it down. He ends up trapping himself in the process. And there's hints at the end that the dark force is much more powerful than we had initially imagined, so he may have only really struck a very minor blow.
On another note, I'm pretty goddamn pissed off. I just watched SentUAMessage and they were talking about the upcoming Alan Wake DLC. Apparently they aren't going to continue the story. They're supposed to be like alternate viewpoints of what we've already seen or something. That's some BS. Especially since they're supposedly they're doing that to lead into a sequel, which is looking unlikely we'll ever see, since from what I heard, it looks like this game is going to bomb. I though they were going to tell the entire story episodically through DLC. Now we may just have another BG&E/Shenmue/Advent Rising on our hands.

Yeah, it only sold 380,000 copies worldwide so far.

I'd expect the PC version to be announced in the next few months to help ease the blow...

Re: Remedy celebrates completed Alan Wake with new trailer, party
Yeah, it needs to at least double that before we can be assured a sequel, and I don't see that happening. What I was thinking they should do, is go the Fable II route, and release it episodically for GoD. It's already perfect for that. Maybe they could make up their sales like that.

Yeah, it's funny, because Fable II isn't structured like that but that's the route they took

Re: Remedy celebrates completed Alan Wake with new trailer, party
I was tempted to buy Fable II episodically just to see how the fuck they worked that out. But yeah, Alan Wake would be perfect for this. Make each episode 800 points. Release one a week, until the next episode is released for all.

Well, Yahtzee certainly picked up on the Stephen King thing.

lol yeah. I saw that. Did anyone read through the book that came with the LE? I'm making my way through. There's a lot of rehashing, but it's still pretty interesting.

Re: ..::Official Alan Wake Thread::..
Just clreared the Signal. It continues the story, is pretty damn long, and has lots of greatness to it .
Even if I didn't get it for free for having a new copy, it would have been more than worth the 7 dollar asking price IMO.

So I finished it this weekend. It was AWESOME. It didn't just continue the story, it added to the world and gameplay. It was just so great, can't wait for the next DLC.
